Welcome to the September edition of the Warrior Family Association e-newsletter and welcome to our new Indiana Tech parents! My name is Maria Einolf, and my husband, President Karl Einolf, and I are so excited that the academic year has begun. The entire team at Indiana Tech – faculty, staff, and coaches – are working so hard to make in-person classes possible this fall! We are masked up and socially distant; and every class on our campus is being live-streamed so students may attend remotely if they need to. Please speak with your student about continuing to help us stay safe, so we may remain in-person for the entire semester. So far, we are pleased with how smoothly everything is going.
During our move-in week before classes started, the Warrior Family Association held daily parent receptions during which I was able to meet with parents and hear about their students. Thanks to all of you who attended – I hope you felt welcome and more at ease with trusting us with your student and their education. Remember that both my husband and I here if you need us: Karl kweinolf@indianatech.edu, Maria mgeinolf@indianatech.edu, and the President’s Office phone number is 260.399.2800.
The start of the semester is always exciting because we meet new students and faculty. We also reacquainted with everyone else who hasn’t been on campus since March! When our RAs returned, President Einolf and I met with them during a socially distant pizza party. They were busy planning orientation activities that were fun and engaging (even in our new normal), and they were thinking outside the box to plan ways to get their residents to know other students on their floor. We also have a great group of new faculty, and I am very impressed with the knowledge and experiences they bring to Indiana Tech. I wish I could enroll in some of their classes, and maybe I will!
Our traditional school year-opening convocation ceremony was held in-person for only our senior students, and the rest of our community joined virtually via YouTube live. (You may watch a recording of the ceremony at https://youtu.be/Lr3-dTDIg8o.) It was nice to see our senior students who, like me, are in their fourth year at Indiana Tech. I remember participating in freshmen orientation activities with our seniors, and I watched their transformation over their time at Indiana Tech. I can’t wait to celebrate with them next May at their graduation ceremony! Let’s hope we will be able to have it!
Our brand new coffee shop on campus, Central Grounds, was open in time for the students to return for campus this fall. The next time you visit, I encourage you to stop in for a cup of coffee and see for yourself how wonderful a space it is. It is great place for students to gather – socially distanced of course – while getting one of their many beverages, an amazing breakfast sandwich or a breakfast bowl! Let me know when you are in town, and I will treat you to a cup of coffee!

| Warrior Athletics Releases Spectator Policy
| |
The Indiana Tech Department of Athletics has released its spectator policy for the 2020 fall sports season.
Each Indiana Tech player and coach will be allowed two guest passes per event. This pass list must be submitted by the head coach prior to the day of the event. Only these pass list guests, Indiana Tech students, staff and faculty and game-day personnel will be permitted to attend home events for the sports of men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball during the fall season. Indiana Tech students must reserve a spot through Commons 803 or the CORQ app 24 hours prior to a contest in order to gain admission, and a valid Indiana Tech ID must be presented at the gate.
No other spectators or visiting fans will be allowed into the facility. Doors to the facilities will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the contest and will close 15 minutes after the contest has started. Spectators may be required to have their temperature taken and undergo COVID-19 screening prior to entering.
All venues will follow the 250-person (including participants, coaches, game-day personnel, officials, etc.) limit for large gathering events as mandated by the state of Indiana. Game-day site supervisors will monitor crowd size and enforce social distancing and Indiana Tech's mask protocols. Individuals that dwell in the same household are permitted to sit near one another. Otherwise social distancing should be practiced (at least six feet of space between individuals).
Any gatherings such as tailgating, group meals, student sections, parent groups, etc. are prohibited. Watching from outside the fence for soccer matches at Warrior Athletic Field is also prohibited. Concessions will not be available in the Schaefer Center or at Warrior Athletic Field.

Final thoughts from a fellow mom
Our house here in Fort Wayne is a bit quieter these days. After having a houseful through the first few months of the pandemic, both of my sons are now back in Pennsylvania. Nicholas is enjoying his job as a pharmacy assistant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and he is busy working on his MBA through Indiana Tech’s online program. His most recent passion is a new pickle ball league he joined. He and his girlfriend, Mary, enjoy playing pickleball as well as biking and hiking. Thomas is back at Washington & Jefferson College and has started classes. Unfortunately, his soccer season was cancelled for the fall which is a big disappointment for him. He worked hard all summer training, and he was probably in the best shape of his life. We are grateful, at least for now, that Indiana Tech and the NAIA will still have a modified fall sports season.
Karl and I will celebrate 30 years of marriage in October, and we are looking forward to a nice getaway weekend. I am not comfortable with flying yet, so we are taking a trip to northern Michigan. Many of our students have told us that it is beautiful there, so we are taking our 9 month-old puppy, Ruby, and heading to a cabin on a small lake. I hope you all remain safe and healthy during this continued time of uncertainty. Again, please reach out to me if you need anything at all.
