Our first-year student Bridge Program started this week, and many of our fall sport athletes will also be arriving soon. On Friday, August 16, during move-in weekend, I will be hosting families of our students at our annual Warrior Family Association reception. We will be in the Abbott Welcome Center from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Please plan to join us!
Our student affairs team is preparing an exciting orientation program and fun activities for all of our students the first week they are on campus. Please encourage your student to get involved with us early!

All new students and families: don’t miss the first Warrior Family Association reception on Aug. 16, from 3:30-4:45 p.m., in the Abbott Welcome Center, where Maria Einolf and several other Indiana Tech staff members will welcome you to the Warrior family!
Homecoming/Family & Friends Save the Date
Save the date for Family & Friends weekend! Saturday, Oct. 5, is our 7th annual Family & Friends Day. On this day, families and friends of Indiana Tech students come see the place their student calls home—where they are creating a life and investing so much time and energy in pursuit of their educational goals. It will be a fun day filled with different activities across campus, many of which will include Homecoming 2019 events. Both events were scheduled at the same time this year to give family and friends a more comprehensive and fun look at what it’s like to be part of the Warrior Family.

Moving to Campus
Deciding what to bring for your life on campus can be challenging. Keep in mind that space is limited and also shared. Focus first on items that you will need, then think about items you will want and the space you have left. Also, keep in mind that the security of your items is your responsibility.
The essentials:
- Sheets, blankets, pillows and pillowcases (beds are twin extra-long)
- Towels
- Personal hygiene items (soap, shampoo, toothbrush/toothpaste, etc.)
- Cleaning supplies
- School and desk supplies
Other items to consider:
- Humidifier
- Noise-cancelling headphones
- Bluetooth speaker
- Handheld vacuum
- Coffee maker
- Umbrella
- Mattress cover
Residence Hall Checklists:
Since all of our residence halls are different, we’ve prepared checklists of suggested items for each building to assist with your planning. For more information on what to bring for your specific residence hall, find your checklist at the following link: https://housing.indianatech.edu/new-residents/bring/

Final thoughts from a fellow mom
I realize that some of you have a student who is moving to Fort Wayne for the very first time. This is the same situation I was in only one year ago. Mid July marks the one-year anniversary of my move to Fort Wayne, Indiana. As you may know, my husband Karl began serving as President in July of 2017. However, I stayed back in Pennsylvania to allow our youngest son, Thomas, to finish his senior year in high school. As it turns out, this was a wise decision. Not only did Thomas have a great ending to his high school career, but it also gave Karl a chance to scope out Fort Wayne before I arrived.
I thought it would be difficult moving to Indiana after living in Pennsylvania for almost 30 years. Fort Wayne has proven to be a wonderful place to live. We have so many great restaurants, a beautiful park system, regular festivals downtown, minor league sports teams and many activities available for college-age students. Fort Wayne even has four different Escape Rooms!
In addition to the city of Fort Wayne, life at Indiana Tech has simply been amazing. Our student affairs team schedules so many events for students – there is always something for them to do. Starting off the fall, our men’s and women’s soccer teams and our women’s volleyball team will be in competition. There will be many games to go see! The campus is a beautiful place to spend time; our staff is both helpful and friendly; and the residence halls are modern and new. Indiana Tech is my home, and I can’t wait to share it with students again - see you soon!
