August 30 - Sept. 6 - Seven-day retreat with Sandra Gonzalez
Space is still available in this Labor-Day encompassing retreat with Sandra (pictured in the Springwater kitchen). In this retreat Sandra will give talks, take part in dialogue groups and be available for private meetings. Hear a talk given by Sandra this July where she spoke of her own lifethat it is essential for there to be an intimacy with right here, right now. The exploration is to wonder what is going onthe hurt, the discomfort, the wanting something different. Awareness can lead to understanding of how one's mind functions, allowing us to understand others because we are not dividing ourselves but rather recognizing ourselves in the other. More information about Sandra may be found on her page on the website.
August 17 - 29 and September 7 - 19  - Quiet Weeks
During quiet weeks, the main building is in silence after work hours and there are more opportunities than usual to meet and dialogue with others. All three Springwater teachers will be in residence and available for group and private meetings during the quiet weeks periods. Please contact reception to register to stay all or part of the quiet weeks. (Please note that the memorial gathering for Eben Gulick described below will take place during the September quiet week period.)
Memorial Celebration of the Life of Eben Gulick Saturday September 13, 10:15 a.m. to approx. 2 p.m.
Eben spent time at the Center in 2008 and was on staff in 2011-12.  During his first stay, he helped with the care of Toni Packer. During his time on staff, he was instrumental in beginning the project to archive her talks in digital format. Very sadly, Eben died in December 2013 following an illness. Friends who wish to attend the memorial are requested to contact reception so that we may plan for seating and the lunch to be served. Please plan to arrive between 9:30 and 10:15 a.m. If you would like to write an appreciation of Eben's life, an album will be available. Many members of Eben's family are staying at the Center for the weekend, but some space in the building is still available for anyone wishing to stay overnight. Please contact reception for room availability and further information. (Eben and his cat Robaire are pictured in the photo on the porch of the Center cabin they occupied.)
September 20 - 27 - Seven-day Retreat with Richard Witteman
Richard will give talks, take part in the dialogue group each afternoon, and be available for private meetings. A quotation by Richard from his talk in the July retreat:
"We may discover the miracle...that there really is something here that does not change, even as our states change. Something so indefinable and so transparent, that it goes unnoticed.
And so in a retreat, in a meditative community, in writings, we point to this with words: awareness, presence. In the Buddhist tradition, it's called our true self, our true nature . . .
These words are here simply to point us back to silence itself, to pure being. To acknowledge that yes, this that we call awareness is here. This beingness that is naturally here, does not have to be sought after, or created. It's simply here in the middle of thought, in the middle of activity, and in the silence of quietly sitting." Follow this link to hear the talk. For more information about Richard, see his page on the website.
September 30 - October 6 - Center closed for staff break - Please do not plan to visit at this time.
October 11-17 - Big Sky Mind ~ Big Ocean Body, a Meditation and Continuum Movement Retreat
Mark Bryant and Cory Blake (pictured below) will hold this retreat that integrates meditation as practiced in the spirit of Springwater Center with the movement-based somatic work of Continuum Movement. In this retreat it is possible to discover the intimate relationship between movement and stillness and how each informs and nourishes each other. Indeed, one may find that movement and stillness are not separate. For more information about the retreat, please contact Mark by email (mudra.mark@gmail.com)

Digital Archive News
Sorry, there is no link to a talk by Toni Packer this month, but the happy news is that thanks to a generous donation, the digitizing of Toni Packer's recorded talks is being completed. Digitization of the reel-to-reel recordings was completed in June, and now thanks to the new donation, over 200 cassette tapes of talks given in California and foreign locations will also be digitized. Both hard drives of the archive have gone back to Rochester to be worked on, but we hope to bring you a talk by Toni in the next news update.
Meditation Groups
If you are looking for a group in your area one may be listed on the Meditation Groups website page. If you have a group whose work connects in some way with the Center's that you would like to have listed, please contact us.
