Hi there,
Congratulations to all Miami students, staff, and faculty for a successful spring semester. May was full of memories. From Georgian visitors, to a Conversational Chinese class for staff, to rubbing the turtle's head for good luck before finals, this month was here and gone with the blink of an eye.

MIAMI RECEIVES HONORARY BUSINESS AWARD OF THE LUXEMBOURG-AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Miami University was presented with the Honorary Business Award of the Luxembourg-American Chamber of Commerce in New York.
Miami University Luxembourg (MUDEC) is marking its 50th anniversary. In its fifty years, over 12,000 students have spent a part of their academic career in Luxembourg.

MIAMI RECEIVES NINE FULBRIGHT GRANT OFFERS, THE MOST EVER

This is Miami’s largest cohort of Fulbright offers to date. Since 2000, 45 Miami seniors or recent graduates have been offered Fulbright grants to conduct research or teach overseas as English Teaching Assistants.

Miami student wins award in Madrid

MIAMI STUDENT WINS AWARD IN MADRID

Talia Abrams recently received an award from Nebrija University for a micro-story that she wrote and performed in Spanish. 
Abrams was one of five participants who received this impressive award. Her parents were even fortunate to be visiting in Spain during the awards ceremony!

NAFSA OHIO DRIVE-IN

Many of our staff and graduate students attended the NAFSA Association of International Educators Ohio Drive-In. Assistant Director for Communications and Marketing, Kristin Magyari, presented on a study abroad marketing topic: Lead Generation for Study Abroad Applications.

GEORGIAN VISITORS MEET WITH MIAMI STAFF ON CAMPUS

The "Building Bridges Between Georgian and U.S. Universities" visit took place at Miami University thanks to the U.S. Department of State International Leadership Program and the World Affairs Council of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Thanks to our Miami presenters: Karla Guinigundo (Director of Global Partnerships), Kim Tavares (Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations), Dr. James Oris (Associate Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School), and Ruth Groom (Assistant Provost for Academic Personnel).

GLOBAL INITIATIVES STAFF PASS CONVERSATIONAL CHINESE LEVEL ONE

This month, two of our staff members graduated from Conversational Chinese Level One. This course was taught by the Confucius Institute and designed specifically for Miami staff and faculty. Congratulations to Laura and Kristin! And thanks to our instructor Jiawen, also a part of Global Initiatives staff, for teaching many members of the Miami community basic Chinese language.

  • Worked in International Student Services at a business school in Montreal, advising mostly French university students studying in Canada
  • Had a Spanish co-major in undergrad, taking classes mostly on Latin American literature and history
  • First intercultural experience was as a kid at summer camp living with campers from Venezuela, Spain, and Israel and having counselors from the UK and Australia
