Student involvement
In light of increasing concerns regarding the imminent spread of COVID-19 in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, George Mason University is taking a number of precautionary measures to limit exposure and minimize risk. In accordance with CDC and WHO recommendations to limit events and gatherings in order to reduce risk, we are cancelling events.

We regret any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. The health and safety of our community is, and will always be, our top priority. Please refer to Mason coronavirus website for updates and further communications regarding Mason’s plans and procedures.

EVENT CANCELLATIONS

All campus events held through April 10th have been cancelled.
  • RSOs are expected to contact all external vendors/performers associated with their event to let them know it has been cancelled.
  • Contracts for events held through April 10th, 2020 will not be signed by the University.
  • The SI Budget Team will void all submitted purchase orders (POs) for events held through April 10th, 2020.
  • University Events will cancel all 25Live room reservations through April 10th, 2020.
  • The RSO Lead Team will cancel all Mason360 RSO events held through April 10th, 2020.
In consideration of social distancing, we strongly discourage holding events off campus. Any events held off campus will not be funded by the University.

POSTPONING EVENT

Should your organization decide to postpone your event, your group will need to restart the event planning process.
  • RSOs will contact SFB (if applicable) to update your event details (sfb@gmu.edu).
    • Communicate changes within one week of your new event

UPDATES

  • Effective immediately all reimbursement requests should be submitted via email to sibudget@gmu.edu (i.e., reimbursement requests should not be submitted to the front desk of Student Involvement). Please scan the RSO Payment Request Form and your receipts and then email them to sibudget@gmu.edu.
  • Checklist and contract meetings will be held virtually (for events only hosted after April 10th, 2020).
  • Student Involvement strongly recommends that you cease in-person RSO meetings and events and utilize virtual technology (WebEx, Zoom, Hangouts, etc.) to conduct meetings and events.

STUDENT FUNDING BOARD

  • Student Funding Board is currently on hold for all application reviews until March 20th pending University updates.

Unfortunately, these are steps that the University had to take to protect the community’s health and safety.  We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we go through this process. Please keep in mind this is a very fluid situation.  Details, expectations, and guidance may change on a daily basis. We will make sure to update you all as soon as possible. Further guidance for events occurring after April 10th will be forthcoming.

We know this is a time of a lot of uncertainty, and while we don't have all of the answers at this point, we are happy to assist you and your members as we navigate it together.
