Dear Parents and Families,
We are delighted to have welcomed students back to campus this fall for the new academic year. Classes are well underway and everyone is settling into their new schedules. The in person events and activities for students are positively buzzing with excitement, engagement, and enthusiasm. Unfortunately, we are unable to invite you to campus for a Parent and Family Weekend this year due to the pandemic. However, please join us virtually at 4 p.m. EDT on October 26 for our "Experiencing Tufts Today 2021" event. You can find more details and a link to register in the sidebar. Thank you for your continued support.

Career Corner: Conversations with the Tufts Career Center

Fall 2021 Overview of Career Resources and Opportunities

The Tufts Career Center offers extensive resources to help your student explore career options, gain skills and experience, build a professional network, and develop strategies for pursuing career goals. In Fall 2021, these will include career education programs, comprehensive online tools, and the choice of virtual or in-person individual career advising designed to help students at all stages of the career development process. For this semester, we will continue to offer most of our resources and services in a virtual format, and we are ready to support and encourage your student.
Here are just a few of the resources and opportunities coming in Fall 2021:
  • Our virtual career fair (September 24!) and other events to help students meet employers and learn about jobs and internships
  • Plenty of ways to connect with Tufts alumni for career advice, including The Herd, our online student-alumni flash-mentoring platform
  • A recently enhanced website with career communities that will connect students with the resources they need to explore wide-ranging interests and potential opportunities
  • Virtual Professionals-in-Residence, alumni volunteers who will join us throughout the year to speak with students about a variety of career fields in group sessions and 1-on-1s
  • Career panel discussions and workshops, which will be recorded and added to our Career Center YouTube channel for later viewing on-demand
We look forward to supporting and encouraging your student.

What's Happening Academically?

Transitioning to Tufts and Academic Deadlines

One of the biggest transitions from high school to college is understanding how a parent's/guardian's role changes. As young adults, students will be expected to take charge of their education, which will be a different experience from high school. We encourage parents/guardians to coach students through their academic experience rather than manage it for them. While Advising Deans are happy to speak to parents, it is ultimately the student we need to speak with, so parents should encourage their students to contact their Advising Dean if they have questions/concerns.
Being aware of academic deadlines can also help you to support your students, and you can find this information on the Academic Calendar. Please encourage your students to review this calendar and familiarize themselves with the deadlines each semester. This is just one way students are informed of deadlines, in addition to announcements on canvas and emails sent to their Tufts email. Students should now be using their Tufts email as a primary method of communication and checking every day to ensure they are informed of important deadlines, policies, and workshops offered through our department.
We are connecting with your students in many ways already and are excited to continue our work with them this year!

Buy Your Student a Voucher to The Sink Coffee Shop!

The Sink Coffee Shop is Tufts' only student-run café in the Campus Center. The Sink is a hub for student life on campus with great coffee, bumping music, and incredible vibes. You can find students at the Sink during all hours of the day to meet up with friends, study hard for exams, or drink one of our signature specialty drinks.
Buy your student a voucher to keep them well-caffeinated this semester while supporting our student-run business. Vouchers are sold in blocks of $10 and do not expire. After you add the voucher to your online cart, you will be able to choose the dollar amount of your purchase ($10, $20, or $50). You are also welcome to purchase any combination of our voucher options.
Your student will be able to pick up their voucher on campus at the Sink coffeeshop. Please email tuftssink@gmail.com with any questions, and thank you for your support!
