CONTENTIOUS NARRATIVES: DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY AND THE ATTACK ON DEMOCRATIC NORMS
SMPA, in partnership with the Elliott School of International Affairs, Harvard Carr Center for Human Rights Policy and the World Bank, hosted Contentious Narratives, a conference about the role of disinformation campaigns in world affairs, from April 2 – 3.
The conference brought together dozens of scholars and analysts of disinformation from around the world, coming from as far as Australia and Kenya. Panelists examined the potential effects of artificial intelligence in the production of disinformation content, a topic that conference organizer and SMPA professor Steven Livingston and panelist Scott Edwards of Amnesty International wrote about in a Washington Post article on April 3. Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper gave the keynote address to conclude the first day of the conference. A special issue of the Journal of International Affairs will be published in conjunction with the conference.
