All the latest updates from My Forever Family NSW
Dear Friend,
It seems we have already reached the middle of the year! Time has gone so quickly!
If you have been planning things this year – to undertake training or join a Carer Support Group - there’s no time like the present. Don’t wait any longer, book in for that training session and catch up with your fellow carers. It's all about connection and support. Visit our website to look for opportunities, training events and resources or give us a call to touch base.
You may have recently seen us around in Western NSW. We appeared on some bus advertising and in some of the local papers. This was to promote caring for children and young people in the region, as well as promoting an Information Session on becoming a carer, we held in Orange. Thanks to you, as our greatest advocates for others to become carers, we have had a great response to all our Information and Yarn Sessions we have held this year.
Unfortunately our family fun day in Albury had to be postponed as our team are unable to travel from Sydney due to current covid restrictions. We hope to come to the Albury area in the near future and meet with you and talk about your needs. If you were hoping to talk to a member of the Carer Support Team fee free to call us on 1300 782 975 or email enquiries@myforeverfamily.org.au.
Best wishes,
Miriam Moloney
Head of Advocacy, Engagement and Operations

Current campaigns

Part time carers
During the month of June we are focusing on recruiting more part-time carers who are able to offer one weekend a month here and there, providing you and the children in your care an additional network of support. If you know anyone who has always been interested in becoming a carer, this is a great starting point to find out what's involved. Feel free to email us for more information.

Sector updates

Updated financial support guidelines for guardians
The Department of Communities and Justice recently created the Guardianship Financial Guidelines to support guardians, and the children and young people in their care. The guidelines have been updated to include new provisions which help better support children and young people who are under a guardianship order.

Upcoming training

Training is on the move! We're coming to you with more in-person sessions across NSW. Please keep an eye out on the training events page for opportunities local to you.
All in-person training is held in a covid safe environment, follows health guidelines and is a great opportunity for you to connect and catch up with other carers.

A few of our favourites from the online library

Did you know you have access to a wide range of e-books and audio books to help you with your carer journey? Here are a  few recommendations from our Carer Support Team.

This is an insightful ebook on how to understand shame in children. The book will cover what it is, how to help and how to prevent further stress or trauma with the children in your care.
Life story work is a great tool to help enable children to explore past trauma in safe and secure approach. This type of work can help your children develop a healthy sense of self and strengthen their attachment with their carers.
