Summer Celebrations
Summer is around the corner, and with that comes more opportunities to be outside. If your community will be welcoming the change of seasons with a pool party or summer gathering, we'd be happy to join you!
We can bring information, tools, and games - fun for all ages - to help residents reduce, reuse, and recycle right. Just give us some advance notice, and staff and/or master recycler volunteers will show up with everything needed to engage residents and answer recycling questions. Contact us today to get your event on our calendar.
Do you manage communities outside of Clackamas County? See our list of regional multifamily contacts throughout the tri-county area who are ready to help with your waste prevention, reuse, and recycling efforts.
Reducing & Reusing - Better than Recycling
It's easy to get caught up in the question of "Is this recyclable or not?" I mean, we even have a regional website and Instagram presence (@recycleornot & @reciclarono) to help answer that question. However, we can have a bigger impact by asking ourselves different questions long before we get to the recycling one.
  • What if you never had to answer the "Paper or plastic?" question in the grocery store check-out line, because you brought your own reusable bag?

  • What if you never had to track down a single-use straw because you carry a reusable one in your purse/car/backpack? Or better yet, do you really need a straw at all?!

  • Do you have a favorite mug that keeps your coffee hot for hours and your refreshing drink cold for just as long? Bring it with you next time you order coffee, iced tea, Sprite, or water! Not only can you avoid the single-use, disposal cup, but you get the added benefit of the prolonged hot coffee/cold refreshment!
And these aren't the only times we should be asking these questions. Having a birthday party for a child? Consider generic decor that can be reused year after year, between siblings, or even amongst friends. How about checking out a karaoke machine from the local library (Have you heard about Library of Things Libraries in ClackCo?!). Feeling like you need new clothes? Consider swapping with friends or finding gently-used clothing nearby at local thrift shops or on apps like Facebook Marketplace or Buy Nothing groups.
By reducing our waste and reusing items, we not only keep more items out of the landfill, but we also keep virgin materials in the earth, eliminate additional manufacturing and transportation of items we're not purchasing, and help our planet while also helping our wallets.
Climate Action Plan - Take the Community Survey
Over the past year, the community and youth task forces identified possible ways for ClackCo to reach the goal to become carbon neutral by 2050.
The county is now looking for community feedback on how we can get there. Your responses will help the county understand the priorities and needs of the community to develop a Climate Action Plan that can be implemented successfully. The survey includes categories from energy to transportation, consumption and more. You can complete it all or select the categories that interest you most.

Electrify Your Community!
Do you want to encourage green transportation in your community? Have you ever considered an electric car-share in your community? The PGE Drive Change Fund is currently accepting applications for projects that advance transportation electrification in Oregon and provide community benefit. As stated on The PGE Drive Change Fund website, since its inception in 2019, the program has awarded millions of dollars to projects, including new EV chargers to help electrify transportation in Oregon. Maybe your community could be next!
