University Teaching & Service Awards Call for Nominations |
The Provost invites nominations of candidates for teaching awards of distinction, including the Chancellors Club Teaching Awards and the university-wide excellence in teaching awards, as well as the University Faculty Service Award. Departments and schools are encouraged to think broadly and inclusively when considering nominees.

Chancellors Club Career Teaching Award |
The award, made possible through funds provided to the KU Endowment Association by members of the Chancellors Club at the University of Kansas, carries a stipend of $10,000, less applicable taxes, and is presented annually to a longstanding KU professor whose career best exemplifies the university’s commitment to outstanding teaching and the long-term success of students. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to nominate.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

Tenured full professors with 20 or more years of service at KU who are planning full retirement within next five calendar years.

|
Chancellors Club Teaching Professorship |
The professorship recognizes excellence in teaching and will be awarded only to persons who have demonstrated outstanding teaching over a period of years. The professorship is awarded for a five-year term and carries an annual salary supplement of $10,000, less applicable taxes. Any professorships awarded will start in August 2027 and extend through the 2031-2032 academic year.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

Ned N. Fleming Trust Award |
The award, made possible through a generous donation by the late businessman, Ned Fleming, has recognized outstanding commitment to teaching excellence since 1990 and carries a one-time stipend of $5,000, less applicable taxes.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

- Tenured or tenure-track full-time faculty who have not previously received a university teaching award.

International Affairs Advisory Board International Teaching Award |
The International Affairs Advisory Board International Teaching Award recognizes KU faculty members who have provided outstanding and sustained leadership in international education through their teaching, advocacy and mentorship at KU, thereby broadening the student experience to be more inclusive of the world. The award includes $1,000 in funding for professional activities and is financially supported by the advisory board of KUIA in recognition of the faculty member’s ongoing efforts to internationalize their teaching and create transformative models that inspire colleagues to engage in the internationalization of their own curricula and instructional efforts.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

- All full-time faculty in on-going (tenure track or multi-term) positions are eligible for the award.

|
William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence |
The William T. Kemper Foundation named the University of Kansas as a beneficiary under a charitable trust and directed that these funds recognize the importance of teaching excellence, innovation, and student-centeredness to the success of the University of Kansas. Each year, the Kemper Fellowships will recognize five outstanding KU faculty whose innovative approaches to teaching help students gain crucial skills, embrace academic and professional challenges, develop learning strategies, and improve long-term student success. Each of the five awardees will receive a one-time stipend of $7,500, less applicable taxes.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

All full-time tenure-line and instructional faculty who have completed a minimum of five years of service at KU prior to the award year and who have demonstrated teaching excellence, innovation, and student-centeredness may be nominated.

Byron T. Shutz Award for Excellence in Teaching |
Established by the late Byron T. Shutz in 1978, the award recognizes excellence in teaching at the University of Kansas. The University presents up to two awards annually: one to a tenured faculty member in business or economics and the second to a tenured faculty member in any discipline. Each award carries with it the expectation that the recipient will deliver a public lecture. At the time of the lecture, they will receive an award of $4,000, less applicable taxes, and a reception held in their honor.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

Silver Anniversary Teaching Award |
The university's 25-year anniversary class established the Silver Anniversary Teaching Award to recognize exceptional teaching excellence among tenure-track faculty. Up to two awards will be awarded, each including a one-time stipend of $2,500, less applicable taxes. The recipient(s) will be announced and honored at the Chancellor’s University Teaching Awards celebration.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

Bob & Kathie Taylor Excellence in Teaching Award |
This award is made possible through a generous donation by Bob and Kathie Taylor. Bob Taylor graduated with a degree in economics in 1969. The award carries a stipend of $4,000, less applicable taxes, and is presented annually to one or more longstanding KU instructional faculty or academic staff members. This award recognizes instructors whose careers best exemplify the university's commitment to outstanding teaching and students' long-term success. The recipient(s) will be announced and honored at the Chancellor's University Teaching Awards celebration. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to submit nominations.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

All instructional faculty or academic staff with substantial teaching responsibilities who have not previously received a university teaching award.

|
Established in 2025 with support from the KU Office of the Provost, the Faculty Service Award recognizes faculty members who have provided outstanding service to the KU community through institutional service at the department, school/college, and/or university levels. This award recognizes high-quality, high-impact service activities in a range of areas, including committee or task force work, campus-wide programming or initiatives, mentorship or professional development for colleagues, policy improvement, program creation, program evaluation, faculty governance, and support of student organizations. Two awards are presented annually. Each recipient will receive an award of $2,000, less applicable taxes.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on December 1, 2026.

KU faculty with at least a .5 FTE appointment, including tenure line faculty, instructional faculty, and unclassified academic staff, who have completed a minimum of four years of service in their faculty role are eligible for nomination.
