Researchers Connect Over Coffee
In pre-pandemic days, the Office of Research and Engagement launched Coffee and Convergence, a series of casual gatherings focused on the University of Tennessee’s strategic areas of emphasis. Tom Zawodzinski, the UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair Professor for Electrical Energy Conversion and Storage, was among the first to participate, and said the event helped him build new collaborations.

Black History Month Events Include Art, Films, and Seminars

UT’s annual celebration of Black History Month kicked off this week, virtually and in person, with the first of many events planned throughout February. The month will include film screenings, the 16th annual Black Issues Conference, art showcases, and more.

Students in the School of Interior Architecture recently had the opportunity to reimagine the post-COVID-19 workplace. The fall 2020 studio class focused on what it means to be in a workplace during the present pandemic, along with what workplaces might look like in the future.

The Tennessee Valley Authority joins UT as a principal partner in the Tennessee RiverLine, North America’s next great regional trail system. This initiative was founded in the UT College of Architecture and Design’s School of Landscape Architecture in 2016.

The Tickle College of Engineering rose eight spots in the U.S. News and World Report’s ranking of online master’s engineering programs that was released January 26, climbing to a tie at 21st among all institutions in the 2021 listings, 17th among public schools.

ORE to Host NSF's Rebecca Keiser for Virtual SPARKS Workshop
On Friday, February 12, the Office of Research and Engagement will host a SPARKS workshop on international research during the pandemic, featuring Rebecca Keiser, head of NSF's Office of International Science and Engineering. Other presenters will share their tips and experiences on launching and maintaining internationally engaged research.
