Dear Bowling Schools,
We are emailing to let you know that we have posted the State Qualifying Meet
(SQM) sites for the upcoming bowling postseason on our websites. You can view those by clicking here. We will be releasing the team assignments later. A reminder that girls state qualifying meets will be February 17 and boys state qualifying meet will be February 18 this season.
The SQM sites were drawn from the site availability forms completed by bowling schools. State Qualifying Meets serve as both an individual tournament and a team tournament. Teams will bowl 15 baker games, and the top total pins would advance to the State Meet. Class 3A and 2A state qualifying meets will compete at four sites with the top two teams at each site qualifying for the State Team Tournament. Class 1A will compete at eight sites with the champion at each site qualifying for the state team meet. Please Note: It may be possible that not all girls and boys teams will be assigned to the same site to ensure we are creating the best state qualifying meet for both boys and girls.
Individuals at the state qualifying meet will bowl three games. The top eight scores from each Class 3A/2A site will qualify for the State Individual Tournament for a total of 32 individual qualifiers. The top four scores from the eight 1A state qualifying meets will qualify for the state tournament for a total of 32 individual qualifiers.
A lineage fee per gender team ($100 for a boys' team and an additional $100 for a girls' team) will be paid by each school to the assigned host facility of each qualifying meet.
To follow the bowling advisory recommendations for postseason assignments, it is essential that bowling schools enter and maintain their stats in Bound. As a reminder, the Bound reporting deadlines are on the following dates this season:
Tuesday, January 28, 2025
Tuesday, February 11, 2025
Reminders: Bowlers are allowed “12 Playing Dates” regardless of whether the competition is JV or Varsity. In addition, bowlers should remain seated in the down area while active bowling is taking place. This is a two-fold issue. One involves spectators being able to view the competition and the other issue involves gamesmanship and sportsmanship.
Thanks for all that you do for Iowa kids. Please contact either of us if you have any questions.

On the Horizon: Starting with the 2025-2026 season bowling will have a split/staggered season like other IHSAA/IGHSAU sports. The IGHSAU season will start two weeks prior to the IHSAA season in late fall. This will result in both the State Qualifying Meets (SQMs) and State Tournaments being separate for girls/boys in 2025-2026.
