Welcome to the December 2021 edition of the Warrior Family Association e-newsletter. I hope that many of you will have a chance to spend some quality time with your students over the holiday break. We had a tremendous fall semester here at Indiana Tech, and we are proud of our students’ many accomplishments.
I would love to give a shout out some fellow moms—the Moms of the Women’s Hockey Team. Many of them traveled this fall from Canada, Alaska and other faraway places to Fort Wayne to see games during our inaugural season, and all of them are supporting the team online! At the time I wrote this, the team was ranked third in the nation having just swept two games from No. 2 Adrian College. (Shouldn’t that put us ahead of still-No. 2 Adrian College!?)
I attended numerous events on campus over the last couple of weeks and many of our students expressed their excitement to see their families again over the holidays. The Sunday night before finals week, as a stress-release event, Dr. Einolf and I, along with our goldendoodle Ruby, visited Pierson Hall and read our version of the holiday classic poem: “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.” This was the poem we created for Indiana Tech’s Holiday e-Card this year. You can view the video e-card at the bottom of this newsletter.
Dr. Einolf and I also created a video update last month that featured several new initiatives happening at Indiana Tech this fall. If you would like to view this five-minute video, click on this link.

COVID-19 Update
During holiday break, please take care to protect yourselves, your families and friends as you travel and attend gatherings. Looking ahead to next semester, vaccinations and masks will still be strongly encouraged as protection for your student—as a means to decrease the spread of the virus and as a way to decrease the need for individuals to quarantine. If your student has already been vaccinated, consider getting a booster shot in the days ahead.
We will start the new semester in January with our existing coronavirus policies and procedures still in place. Read more on our coronavirus response page. Those fully vaccinated will not have to wear a mask unless they choose to do so, nor will they have to quarantine if they are a close contact. Those NOT vaccinated will be asked to wear a mask when indoors and within 3 feet of others. They will also be at risk of being quarantined, and missing work, events, activities and in-person class, if they are identified as a close contact.

Final thoughts from a fellow mom
This will be the first Christmas where our family of four will not be all together on Christmas. Our older son, Nicholas, will be working at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We see first-hand the sacrifices that our health care workers make every day, and we are proud of Nicholas for his good work. We will miss him, but we look forward to traveling to see him and the rest of our family after Christmas. I especially enjoy visiting with my mom, who is 93 and lives in New Jersey. Although I speak with her on the phone every day, I am grateful for the times we can be together in person.
Our younger son, Thomas, will make it home to Fort Wayne for Christmas. This past weekend, Karl and I moved Thomas into an apartment in Wheeling, West Virginia. He starts a new job, having just graduated from college, teaching math at a private boarding school in Wheeling called the Linsly School.
Wishing you all the blessings of the holiday season and a happy and healthy new year!
