Easter Chapel

Our Easter chapel will be celebrated during our 1 p.m. service today with our ninth graders attending in person in St. Andrew's Chapel and the rest of the community joining by Zoom.
Enjoy a short video from our Good Friday service featuring vocals by senior Isabella Randolph.

Change in COVID Testing Schedule

This week only

All community members will test on Wednesday or Thursday this week. Regular weekly testing will resume on Monday April 12. Students will not be required to quarantine prior to testing.

Vaccines for eligible boarding students

SAS is coordinating opportunities for boarding students who are eligible to receive COVID vaccines. Questions? Contact COVID Coordinator Dan Monahan.
As of 4/5/21, the active COVID case rate in our area is. 38%

Grade-Level Program

Grade-level programming uses co-curricular activities to help build community among members of each grade. Each grade has a yearlong theme that is tied to the students developmental stage and loosely connected to the shared curriculum of that year. This Thursday, during J-Block, our students will gather for various activities including planning for year-end activities such as the 6th grade campout, 8th grade This I Believe presentations, and senior retreat, as well as lessons in yoga and college essay writing.

Updates to Check-out Policy

We have made some changes to our boarder check-out policy based on feedback from our parents.

Boarding students in grades 9-12 with riders' and/or drivers' permission set up in Boardingware may now check out for up to eight hours at a time on their own or with another student to a specific destination on Saturdays between 11:30 a.m. and 10 p.m., on Sundays between 11:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., or overnight* on Saturdays with an immediate family member or SAS family. Check-outs must be on the Mountain (Sewanee or Monteagle) unless the student is checking out to another student's home or for a take-out restaurant. Checkouts to specific destinations off the Mountain require a phone call between the parent and the TIC for both the driver and the rider; no blanket permissions are accepted. Boarding students in grades 7 and 8 may only check out with an adult and to the home of a fellow student. Checking out requires that a student has their parents'/guardians' permission and the approval of the TIC or AOC.
*Overnight check-outs should be requested BEFORE the weekend.

Nationals This Weekend

Our three-time state championship Ethics Bowl team will be competing in the national championships this weekend. The championships, normally hosted at the University of North Carolina, will be held virtually this year. Best of luck to Mac Croom, Justine Rogers, Erin Mattingly, Parker Jones, Lily Garner, and coach and Dean of Students Geoffrey Smith

Congratulations!

Porter Neubauer '21 received a Johnson Scholarship at Washington & Lee University in Virginia. The Johnson Scholarship is W&L’s most prestigious scholarship and provides full tuition, room, and board for students chosen based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, and the potential to contribute to the intellectual and civic life of the W&L campus and the world.

Correction to Honor Lists

Kira Engelhardt was inadvertently left off of the Honors List for Quarter 3. Grey Givens and Luke Garner should have been listed on the High Honors, not Honors, List. View the updated list.

Director of College Counseling and COVID Coordinator Dan Monahan recently completed his Graduate Certificate in College Counseling from University of California, San Diego.
