Dear Friends of Asian Studies,

I hope everyone is doing well as we reach the middle of the semester! This month’s newsletter highlights some recent events, including Lunar New Year celebrations, Korean conversation re-opening celebration, and more information on a variety of student organization gatherings, from Russian movie screenings to Tea Club and Korean Night snacks. Spring Festival Party

The EALL Chinese Program, co-sponsored by the Asian Studies Program, hosted the Spring Festival Party on Feb. 8, where students and faculty explored Chinese New Year customs, enjoyed authentic cuisine from China Café, and participated in traditional games.

Korean Conversations

The Korean Conversation Corner re-opening celebration took place on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 5–6 p.m. in the Asian Studies Center, 19A Persson Hall. Attendees gathered to celebrate the restart of the program. Following the event, weekly sessions are now held every Wednesday from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. in the same location.

Lunar New Year Celebration

The Chinese Interest Group hosted the Lunar New Year Celebration in the Hall of Presidents on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m. The event featured catering from Red Chili, a variety of activities including origami and Chinese papercutting, and engaging student performances.

Russian Tea

Russian Tea is an opportunity for Russian speakers of all levels to engage in and practice Russian conversation with students and faculty while drinking tea from a samovar, eating Russian treats (and Flour & Salt), and playing Russian card and board games.

KCA Yasik Study Night

Take a break from studying and join us for spicy rice cakes, dumplings, kimbap and more!

Who: Korean Culture Association

When: March 8, 6:30–8:30 p.m.

Where: Brayn Complex - Edge Café

Tea Club

The Tea Club welcomes all students interested in exploring tea culture and snacks. Join us biweekly on Fridays at 3:30 p.m. in ALANA to unwind after a busy week as we sample teas from around the world and engage in fun activities. Additionally, we are looking for new leaders to carry the club forward, so please contact Vivian Jiang (vjiang@colgate.edu) if you are interested in leadership opportunities with the Tea Club!

Russian Films

Join the Russian Eurasian Club for weekly screenings of Russian films every Sunday at 7 PM in Lawrence 201 on March 23, we’ll feature Repentance (1984) by Georgian filmmaker Tengiz Abuladze. In early April, we plan to showcase a film by a Kazakh director, either Ermek Shinarbaev or Rashid Nugmanov. Stay tuned for updates!
