A message from Denison Director of Athletics Nan Carney-DeBord ’80

Welcome to the inaugural edition of The Varsity Letter which is designed to keep former Denison athletes up to date on the latest happenings in Big Red athletics. Campus-wide, Denison is enjoying remarkable momentum right now, and nowhere is this more evident than in our varsity sports programs. Amazing success stories continue to come out of our department, and the news is just too good not to be shared with those of you who have gone before.
In addition, the Varsity D Association has undergone a reorganization in recent years under current President Rich Seils ’67, including the addition of individual sports representatives working closely with the head coaches of Denison’s 23 varsity sports. Their objective is to provide even more support that promotes and enhances the overall athletic experience for our varsity student-athletes. As alumni, coaches, professors, and administrators, we comprise a strong community that champions academic excellence and athletic eminence. Both are key components of the mission of our university.
Engagement of alumni, family members, fans, and friends of the college has become one of the top priorities of the athletic department, and our recent appointment of Mike Hills, a 24-year veteran at Denison, as the first-ever director of the Varsity D Association, is a positive step forward for the future success of Big Red athletics. You can read more about Mike and this important and exciting advancement in our department here.
Our current and former athletes represent the very best of Denison, and I hope you will feel free to reach out to either Mike or me if there are additional ways in which you are able to support Big Red athletics. In the meantime, I hope our paths will cross at an upcoming game back on “the Hill” in Granville. Go Big Red!
