The Leader to Leader Lecture Series offers University of Memphis students, faculty, and staff a chance to connect with local leaders. During these lectures, students hear firsthand about the experiences and insights of community and professional leaders. Through open-ended discussions, students gain valuable perspectives on what it takes to be a successful leader in various fields. Our September speaker is Barbara Farmer-Tolbert, who is a trailblazer in law enforcement, public safety, and women/children advocacy. Her many awards and accomplishments include: She is a decorated, retired Special Victims Unit Detective, The first African American woman to graduate with the highest GPA from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, The first woman to be awarded “Top Cop” in Shelby County, Life Saving Officer and Officer of The Year, just to name a few. Barbara holds numerous commendations, and is a highly recommended speaker for Public Safety & Human Trafficking Awareness. She lectures in the Criminal Justice & Social Services Department for various Colleges and Universities. She has also presented to schools, faith based organizations, and Fortune 500 companies globally. Her dedication extends beyond her professional duties as she has maintained close contact with victims to inspire them to become victorious. Currently, she serves as the Pastor of Foreign Missions at New Hope Baptist Church. Barbara travels both nationally and internationally, preaching the Gospel, advocating for victims of domestic & sexual abuse, and persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities. She has diligently traveled to 75 countries around the world. Additionally, she teaches personal safety techniques, and situational awareness. She has been married to Anthony Tolbert for 25 years and is the mother of one son. Barbara Farmer-Tolbert truly embodies service to others.

About the Workforce Recruitment Program The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), coordinated by the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Defense, is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal and select private-sector employers with highly motivated college students, graduate students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through internships or permanent jobs.
How to Apply: Visit WRP.gov and click “Students Register Now!” to get started!
Who Can Apply? Students and recent graduates can apply to WRP if they:
· Have a disability and are eligible under the Schedule A hiring authority
· Are a U.S. citizen or national (residents of American Samoa and Swains Island)
· Are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program on a substantially full-time basis OR have graduated with a degree on or after April 1, 2022.
New and returning WRP applicants must register and complete an application each year to continue to participate. Please use a computer or tablet to register and apply. Registration and Application Deadline Registration closes on Tuesday, October 15.

| CFIA - Cybersecurity Lab Happenings
The Departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering is staying informed about cybersecurity because it is crucial in the world today. The University of Memphis' Center for Information Assurance provides great opportunities for students to seek career positions in Cybersecurity. Students can benefit from careers in cybersecurity with higher salary jobs. The CFIA Cybersecurity Lab in Dunn Hall always has exciting ongoing research projects. Some of these projects include those focused on autonomous vehicles, drones, satellites, water pump, and electric vehicle charging stations. Research is conducted by both graduate and undergraduate students. The Hands-on-Project meetings are held every Wednesday where the students discuss their research progress and receive feedback from the professors.

Five College of Ed Students Receive First-Gen Fellowship from Graduate School
This year, the Graduate School at the University of Memphis has selected 12 students to receive the First-Generation PhD/MFA/MArch Fellowship, a financial assistance provision to graduate students who will become the first person in their immediate families to earn a doctoral degree or a Master of Fine Arts. Five of those students are from the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology & Research (CEPR) in the College of Education (COE).
