Preparations are underway for the first phase of the EBC Rooftop project, including the exterior construction staging area along Kingsbury Street that we shared details about in our
last project update. That work is taking place prior to Labor Day.
Phase One construction on the Rooftop will begin Tuesday, September 8, following the Labor Day weekend. This phase will continue through spring 2027, with the Sun Deck reopening for the summer 2027 season. The south end of the fourth level will be an active construction area as we build the new four-season dining space and extend the Club’s main staircase to the Rooftop.
Here’s what members can expect beginning September 8.
Sun Deck & Outdoor Pools
The Sun Deck Cafe, South Outdoor Pool (the family pool) and all seating on the main level of the Sun Deck will close for the season. The main Sun Deck entrance at the south end of the building will also close and remain closed throughout Phase One construction.
The North Outdoor Pool will remain open for as long as weather allows, as it does each year. The Pool Bar will also be open in September when weather permits.
Members will have two alternate ways to reach the North Outdoor Pool and Pool Bar:
- From the north end of the building, members can use the elevator or stairs located near the back of the Cardio Room on the first level, or from the corresponding hallway overlooking the Cardio Room on the second level.
- Members can also use the stairwell near the ATM on the first level, from the Women’s Locker Room on the second level, or from the Track on the third level.
We recognize that these routes may be unfamiliar to some members. Wayfinding signage will be posted throughout the Club to help direct members.
Fourth-Level Elevators
Beginning September 8, the elevators in the lobby will no longer serve the fourth level and will remain closed to that level throughout Phase One construction. As a result, the Fourth Level Indoor Pool and Studio 4 will only be reachable by stairs from the third level.
Fourth Level Indoor Pool
The Fourth Level Indoor Pool will remain open throughout construction, but will only be accessible by stairs from the third level.
Members can reach the pool using the pool stairwell from the third level. Wayfinding signage will be posted from the third-level elevators, and stroller storage will be available near the stairwell on the third level.
The fourth-level restrooms near the pool will be closed during construction. The closest restrooms will be on the third level, outside Studio 1.
Because the elevator will not be available, towels and towel receptacles will be located on the third level at the base of the stairwell. With the high volume of towels used at the pool, transporting large quantities of towels up and down the stairwell would create a safety concern for our team.
Studio 4
Studio 4 will also remain open throughout construction, but will only be accessible by stairs from the third level. Members can reach Studio 4 using the stairwell outside Studio 1 on the third level.
Towels and towel receptacles for Studio 4 will also be located on the third level at the base of the stairwell.
Phase One of the EBC Rooftop
These changes described above are necessary to complete Phase One construction. The Club’s main staircase will be extended to the fourth level, creating a new, direct connection to the Rooftop; new, larger restrooms will be built; and the existing Sun Deck food service area will be transformed into a new four-season dining space.
These areas will remain closed throughout Phase One, which will continue through the spring. The Sun Deck will reopen for the summer 2027 season.
