With less than three weeks until Election Day, most ballots have arrived in mailboxes. Westminster residents can expect to vote on two local ballot initiatives.

Ballot Measure 3C proposes a sales and use tax increase to fund enhanced firefighting services and a new training facility for the Westminster Fire Department. Read more about Ballot Measure 3C.

History and Mystery of the Bowles House

It was 1863 when a 17-year-old cowboy named Edward Bruce Bowles first came to the Colorado Territory. The Wild West entrepreneur started his family homestead in present day Historic Westminster, which eventually became the iconic (and possibly haunted) Bowles House we now see along 72nd Avenue.

Standley Lake Turnover

You may have noticed that your water tastes a little different. Don’t worry—that’s normal! Each fall around early October, the turnover process begins at Standley Lake, which is a seasonal change between summer and winter when water from the bottom of the lake naturally rises to the top. Turnover helps supply the lake’s ecosystem with vital nutrients and oxygen. It may potentially cause our drinking water to smell or taste a little earthy, but it’s still perfectly safe to drink.
