Emory University Chaplaincy Student Worker Spotlight
Kio Whitten (they/them) was born and raised in Atlanta, and is an Emory senior planning to graduate Spring 2026. They are working towards a Biology Major (Pre-Med), and an ENVS Minor.
While at Emory, they have been involved by being on two dance teams: Alas De Un Mismo Pájaro and Vibez, and are currently the co-president of the Emory Buddhist Club.
What Kio likes best about working at OSRL is “Talking with the chaplains and meeting students from different backgrounds.” The gift they’d like to have is the power to understand and speak any language. When not working or studying, you might find them listening to music or eating mango/lychee based foods.

And on a beautiful Monday evening during the 2025 South Georgia Annual Conference, Maddie stood at the front of the Vineville UMC sanctuary to recite her ordination vows and knelt as hands were laid upon her. Surrounded by family, friends, and clergy and laity from across the South Georgia Conference, she was affirmed in her call as a deacon to a lifetime ministry of Word, Service, Compassion, and Justice.
