The office of Online Learning & Academic Programs (OLAP) is a team of experienced online learning professionals, including instructional and multimedia designers and developers, who are proud to eradicate barriers that prevent our communities from accessing quality higher education.

Jumpstart  
Do you need to build or redesign a fully online course for the upcoming academic year? OLAP is accepting requests to join our Summer 2023 or Fall 2023 cohort for Jumpstart. In your cohort, the OLAP team will guide you in your efforts, providing research-based course design, professional video and other multimedia, and training to support future online course development projects. The Summer cohort will kick off on May 22 and run for 12 weeks, wrapping up by Aug 14 before fall classes begin.

Online Program Management Network (OPMN) Series
This month’s session will focus on best practices in onboarding and orienting online graduate students to support their success. We will review literature and research, as well as open a discussion about current practices across the university.

Helpful Tips:

Bite-Sized & Right-Sized Content 
Breaking up long lectures into short and topical micro-lectures (5-7 minutes each) helps the online learner. The university’s streaming platform, Panopto, is ideal for creating these micro lectures! Additionally, Panopto’s Playlist feature allows instructors to assemble their overall lecture content in any way they choose.  
The Online Learning Media Studio team is here to help instructors create video lecture content. Whether it’s using our customized lecture recording rooms or consulting on self-recording areas in an office or elsewhere, we can be reached via our consultation form or by phone at 865-974-9450. 

AI in Education Resources

As higher education pivots to understand and leverage new artificial intelligence (AI) technologies like ChatGPT, UT is gathering and developing resources to help instructors. Here are a few so far:
