Enrollment Management Updates |
The timely update provided below is for faculty and staff as a part of the Encompass implementation of Banner, the university’s new student information system.
Several key changes are coming up, beginning in the next 30 days in our admissions and enrollment management processes, including how student data is managed. These updates are designed to better serve our campus community and create a more modern experience from the moment students apply to the way we welcome them as they enroll.
Moving forward, Slate will be our new admission and enrollment system and serve as the system of record for prospect, applicant, and admitted student data. Only admitted student data will be transitioned to Banner for further use.
This means the full admissions lifecycle for undergraduate and graduate students will span two systems:
-
Slate (for recruitment and application)
- and Banner (for enrollment and beyond).
As a result, some of the data you may be accustomed to accessing in a single location will now come from different sources. We are actively working on solutions to ensure you continue to have the information you need and will share more details soon.
Below are additional updates to be aware of as we approach initial go-live milestones.
New Application Platform Launching August 1 |
The undergraduate admissions application for Fall 2026 and beyond will move from SAP to Slate, which will integrate with Banner. The Common Application will also launch on August 1. Students applying for terms up to Summer 2026 will continue to use the current SAP application.
Special Programs and Scholarships Application |
Freshman scholarships and admission to what are currently known as "special programs” will no longer be in the same application. Here is a quick breakdown of the new structure:
-
The Freshman Scholarship Application will move to Scholarship Universe, a leading scholarship management tool that is connected to Banner. Applications will open mid-October, and students must be admitted to apply.
-
The Competitive Academic Programs Application will be available in Slate, covering programs such as Honors, CME, METP, Lott, Chinese Flagship, Arabic Flagship, Croft, Early-Entry Pharmacy, and others. Students must also be admitted to apply.
-
The Leadership, Service, and Support Programs Application, supporting programs like Bonner Leaders and FASTrack, will also be available in Slate. Additional programs may be added over time.
-
Academic and campus departments will also use Scholarship Universe to submit departmental scholarships for new and continuing students to Financial Aid for 2026-27 and beyond. The Financial Aid Office is beginning to reach out to departments to explain this new process.
Shift in Student Housing Application Opening from Oct. 1 to Mid-October |
The Housing Application will remain in StarRez, but its launch will be slightly delayed to align with the migration of admitted student data into Banner. It is now expected to open in mid-October instead of the typical October 1 date. More information will be shared once timelines are finalized.

This is a significant amount of change, and leadership is committed to communicating clearly and regularly about how these changes will impact you. We also created an Enrollment Management Changes Fact Sheet to provide additional clarity and guidance. As we prepare for how admissions processes and systems are evolving, know that support is available. If you have questions, please reach out to Jody Lowe.
