New Strategy Could Lead to Universal, Long-Lasting Flu Shot
Duke researchers have developed a new strategy for flu shot vaccines that would, "encourage the immune system to target a portion of the virus surface that is less variable." The research could create more broadly protective vaccines instead of relying on an annual shot geared toward that year’s versions of the virus. The research, conducted by Zhaochen Luo and Nicholas Heaton, would allow for a long-lasting flu shot that might not necessarily require the annual update.
