Join us in Celebrating Du Pont Gardens of the Brandywine Valley |
We’re so pleased to share with you the recent publication of Du Pont Gardens of the Brandywine Valley, a new book that celebrates the du Pont family heritage of land stewardship and horticultural creativity, as seen in five of the family’s estates open to the public—Hagley Museum and Library, Longwood Gardens, Nemours Estate, Mt. Cuba Center, and Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library. With stunning photographs by acclaimed photographer Larry Lederman, text by garden historian and writer Marta McDowell, and foreword by founder, president, and CEO of The Cultural Landscape Foundation Charles A. Birnbaum, the book’s individual chapters are dedicated to these five spectacular estates.
Join us as we toast the publication and enjoy a lively discussion with McDowell and Lederman during a book signing and lecture at Winterthur on October 1. McDowell will share stories and histories of the gardens, while Lederman will describe his approach and experience photographing these beautiful places. A selection of photos from the book will be on display and select tickets include a signed copy of the book.
When registering for this event, make sure to use promo code 'LONGWOOD' to gain access to Member-only prices!

Longwood Reimagined Continues |
As our work on Longwood Reimagined continues to advance, we’re thrilled to share that we’ve selected a name for the new building that will house our offices, classes, and library. Introducing . . . The Grove! This name pays homage to the nearby grove of mature London plane-trees that frames the view of our new west terrace. We asked our staff to suggest possible names and The Grove, which was suggested by two employees, rose to the top. In addition to offices, studios for classes, and the library, The Grove will house a state-of-the-art space for our archives. We can’t wait to share more about The Grove and all of the other exciting elements of Longwood Reimagined as we grow ever closer to our fall 2024 opening.
Want to learn more about this expansive project? Join Longwood staff for an upcoming Longwood Reimagined Member Talk on August 17 or September 14 at 6:30 pm.
