UTA Office of the President

MONDAY, FEB. 23, 2026

Dear colleagues,

The University of Texas System Board of Regents is making sizable investments in UTA that will strengthen our Arlington and West campuses for generations to come. These investments represent the most funding from the Permanent University Fund (PUF) that UTA has ever received in one academic year.

Last week, the Board of Regents approved $100 million toward the construction of our first building at UTA West, marking a defining moment for our University and a new generation of students. This clears the way for construction to begin, advancing phase two of the project following last fall’s approval of infrastructure and utility improvements at the site.

Our aim is to expand access to our outstanding academic programs in one of the fastest growing areas of our region. With this funding, our shared dreams are starting to look more like a bright and tangible future.

The funding for UTA West comes a few months after the Board of Regents authorized $126 million in PUF funding for maintenance for our mission-critical academic facilities on our Arlington campus. This investment will allow our Campus Operations and Facilities Management teams to address many needed improvements, such as new or upgraded roofs, elevators, and classrooms. For the initial phase of this work, the teams have prioritized our most utilized academic buildings: the College of Business Building, Fine Arts Building, Central Library, Nedderman Hall, and University Hall. The teams are identifying projects for the next round of improvements in 2027.

Taking care of our buildings shows we take care of Mavericks. At the next Board of Regents meeting in May, we will seek approval for these specific projects. If approved, you should see all sorts of work underway by the summer.

PUF funds are not discretionary funds. They are used solely for Board of Regents-approved construction and facilities maintenance projects—making a significant impact on our campuses. While we still have budget challenges, these capital funds provide much-appreciated support for the University. I am grateful to our regents and the UT System for their steadfast belief in the future of our University.

Sincerely,
