Greetings alumni and friends,
The Georgia heat may have us thinking it’s still summer, but the fall semester is fully underway at Emory University. I wish each of you could be on campus to feel the energy students have and to see the incredible engagement we’re already experiencing with new students. I have a feeling it’s going to be a great year.
Beloved Community worship resumed on August 20, and we had a record number of students attending. During that service, I preached on Matthew 16:13-20, in which Jesus asks his disciples two questions. He asks “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” and “Who do you say that I am?” I pray this year is one in which our Christian students can explore these two questions.
Through Beloved Community worship, Bible study, and our fall retreat, students can ask “Who do I say Jesus is?” They will have the opportunity to grow in their Christian faith, build friendships that will carry them through their time at Emory, and learn more about themselves. In Bible study this semester, we’re studying Jesus’s parables and exploring how they challenge us today. Students continue to participate in all aspects of worship, and first years are already reading scripture!
