Bioengineering team wins health care innovation competition
|
Four senior bioengineering students at UTA — Jeannette Santos, Brady Killham, Michael Ikefuna, and Juan Ramirez — won the Biomedical Engineering Society Coulter College for Healthcare Innovation Competition for their work on an early detection device for atrial fibrillation.

First-generation UTA students will have the opportunity to receive additional scholarship support thanks to a generous gift from Yardi Systems. Yardi Scholars will receive $10,000 per year for up to four consecutive years of study.

The Center for Mexican American Studies will show the Santos Vive Documentary, followed by a discussion with Richard Gonzales, UTA alumnus, activist, and writer, on Thursday, Oct. 26, 5:30-9 p.m. in the Carlisle Suite of University Center. The documentary tells the story of 12-year-old Santos Rodriguez, who 50 years ago was killed by a Dallas police officer attempting to coerce a confession regarding the theft of $8 from a gas station vending machine.

| Applications for Summer Research Academy Abroad

Applications are due Friday, Oct. 27 for The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Summer Research Academy Abroad (SRA-A). The SRA-A program selects up to 10 students for a study abroad program. Students receive a $4,000 summer stipend, roundtrip airfare, and a housing and food allowance.
