Graduate student invited to national conference

Jess Williams, who is pursuing a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, was selected to present her project at a conference for the American Educational Research Association. Through her research, which asseses queer representation in the Assassin’s Creed video game series, Williams strives to hold video game creators accountable.

| UTA adaptive athlete tackles ironman triathlon

For wheelchair athlete Tyler Garner, clinical assistant professor of kinesiology at UTA, a recent Ironman Triathlon was a challenge too irresistible to pass up. His experience training and competing will inform future lessons in his sports nutrition class, he said, and he applied some of what he teaches to his own training.

The Arlington Martin Luther King Jr. “Advancing The Dream” four-day celebration, starting Friday, Jan. 12, and continuing through Monday, Jan. 15, will showcase local talent, community service, and the advancement of Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream. Homecoming Board of Directors

Apply today to be a part of the inaugural Homecoming Student Board of Directors for a chance to plan and promote UTA’s annual celebration of Maverick spirit. The following two roles are available.

The Homecoming promotions director will be responsible for Homecoming branding, including social media content, outreach to the UTA community, and other creative engagement ideas. The promotions director will support the overall spirit for the campus community as Homecoming approaches.

The Homecoming programs director will steer the overall vision for Homecoming and lead the Homecoming team. The programs director will be the primary representative of Homecoming on campus and will serve on Homecoming event or program committees.

The Office of Sustainability is initiating its Climate Action Plan, a significant step toward addressing the pressing issues of climate change and sustainability. Organizers will outline goals, strategies, and collaborative efforts to combat climate change at the UTA Climate Action Plan Kickoff, set for Monday, Jan. 22, 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Rio Grande Ballroom of the University Center. RSVP for the event, which is open to UTA employees and students.

Construction of Maverick Hall

The Office of Facilities Management has scheduled the closure of the WC parking lot for the construction of Maverick Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Alternative parking for Resident West permitholders is available in Meadow Run, University Village, and Arbor Oaks parking lots, and on-street general parking along Summit Drive. View the UTA Parking Finder app and click on a parking lot to view the current occupancy; adjust your arrival time to see projected future parking lot occupancy at your estimated arrival time.

| Outstanding Student Leadership Nominations Open

Nominate students for Outstanding Student Leader (OSL) Awards by filling out a nomination form that takes five minutes or less to complete. Nominations are due Monday, Feb. 5. All UTA faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to nominate students who have demonstrated leadership skills and made a lasting impact on the UTA community. | Scholarship for natural conservation research
|
The Arlington Conservation Council Endowment for Scholarship and Research is offering a $1,000 scholarship to students interested in conducting undergraduate research pertaining to the conservation of natural resources. Preference will be given to research activities that- benefit the city of Arlington, are interdisciplinary and multiorganizational, and leverage the resources of other entities.
