UTA welcomes football alumni back for reunion
|
The UTA athletic department welcomed the University's football alumni, family, and friends to campus this past Saturday, Feb. 24. Attendees took in the men's basketball team's victory over Utah Tech and enjoyed a pregame reception beforehand. Alumni such as Texas state Senator Royce West and three-time Super Bowl champion Tim McKyer were in attendance, along with players from as far back as the 1959 team.

Vendors, dancers, singers, and audiences will visit the Maverick Activities Center from Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and New York for the Native American Student Assocation at UTA Benefit Powow, which has become one of the biggest powwows in Texas. There will be fry bread, Indian tacos, a stickball demo, and arts and crafts at the event, set for Saturday, March 2, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

The UTA Bookstore will have a leap year sale on Thursday, Feb. 29, both in store and online. Clothing and gifts will be 20% off on Thursday only.
Through Sunday, March 31, selected technology merchandise from the bookstore is 75% off.

Faculty and staff from Hispanic-Serving Institutions are invited to apply to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program. Participants will spend one to two weeks at USDA headquarters in Washington, D.C., learning about the many federal resources available to support their students and institutions. Applications are due Monday, March 4.

International award-winning photographer Platon, who has shot portraits for a wide range of publications, is the next speaker at UTA's Maverick Speakers Series. Platon will present “Powerful Portraits” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Texas Hall. Tickets to see Platon are free for students, faculty, and staff, and $5 for the community.

| Building Emergency Safety Team
|
To provide a safe environment for UTA students, faculty, staff, and guests, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has created the Building Emergency Safety Team (BEST) program. OEM is asking deans, directors, and department heads to appoint a primary BEST program coordinator, who will serve as the point of contact for a unit, department, or building in the area of emergency preparedness and safety. Discover Open Educational Resources at UTA in an engaging hybrid event Wednesday, March 6, 12-1 p.m. in Central Library 315A and online. The presentation will inspire and inform educators, librarians, and anyone interested in the open education movement with lessons learned and strategies for success.

Learning how to combat vehicle theft
|
The Arlington Police Department is strongly encouraging anyone with a Kia or Hyundai with a turn-to-start ignition to attend an event that offers free software updates for theft prevention. The event will be Saturday, March 16, 9 a.m-4 p.m. at Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center, 2101 Browning Drive in Arlington. The update will raise the level of difficulty for stealing vehicles via the “Kia Challenge” that went viral on social media.

UTA Network security enforcement
|
OIT is enabling network security enforcement on all UTA-owned and -managed Windows and Mac devices connected to the UTA campus network over the next two months. This work is part of the Network Access Control (NAC) project. Enforcement will be conducted building by building as outlined in the enforcement schedule. Devices that do not meet security compliance standards will be quarantined and unable to access UTA resources. If your device is impacted, you will receive a pop-up approximately one week in advance.
