Graduate decal drive-thru

Spring 2024 graduates can drive, walk, or roll by the University Center Circle tomorrow, Wednesday, May 1, for a free UTA car decal while supplies last! The first 50 graduates to stop by will also receive an alumni license plate frame.

Don’t miss the MavGrad Celebration, a fun, family-friendly, free event where UTA’s graduating students can celebrate with their friends and family. Come to Brazos Park on Thursday, May 9, at 6 p.m. for food, drinks, music by The Inspiration Band, photo opportunities, and festive activities. The graduating class of 2024 will be recognized with a celebratory toast, and graduating students can stop by the Alumni Relations table to receive their first UTA alumni T-shirt while supplies last.

Graduates should plan to arrive at Globe Life Field 75 minutes before their ceremony. The doors will open 60 minutes before each ceremony for guests. Other common inquiries can be found on the commencement frequently asked questions page.

| Globe Life Field bag policy
|
For commencement guests, all bags and purses must be soft-sided and not exceed 16 inches long by 16 inches wide by 8 inches tall. Backpacks are prohibited, except for single-compartment drawstring bags that do not exceed 16 inches long by 16 inches wide by 8 inches tall. All bags are subject to search before entering the ballpark. Strollers are permitted.

Advocating for the deaf community and teaching ASL
|
Lei-Sea Sky, who is pursuing majors in both social work and political science, has been appointed as UTA’s first student mentor who is deaf. She said her goal is to help ensure that other students who are deaf have equal access to UTA’s boundless opportunities. Lisalee D. Egbert, assistant professor of modern languages who is also deaf, helped create the first American Sign Language (ASL) Club on campus last year and is now spearheading a new minor in ASL and deaf studies. Student organizations, student leaders, and advisors were recently recognized at the annual Leadership Recognition Ceremony hosted by the Follett Student Leadership Center. The Jeff Sorensen Endowed Scholarship and Award went to Laura Sonko, a senior nursing major, and the Dr. Wayne Duke Endowed Scholarship and Award went to Aastha Arora, a junior psychology major. Glass art sale this weekend
|
The Spring Glass Art Sale and Fundraiser, a free event with live glass-blowing demonstrations, will be open to the general public on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. or until sold out. The preview day on Friday, May 3, will allow faculty, staff, and students to shop the day before the sale opens to the public.

Cheer on the Mavericks at home baseball and softball games throughout the weekend. Events on Saturday, May 4, include Senior Day at the 12 p.m. softball game and Galaxy Night at the 2 p.m. baseball game, where the first 150 students to arrive will receive a mini red or blue UTA baseball bat. | Donate digital eclipse materials
|
UTA Libraries Special Collections is seeking community donations of digital materials documenting the solar eclipse that occurred on April 8. Community members are invited to make donations through the Total Solar Eclipse Collection donation form. Items of interest include digital photographs, videos, artwork, and more relating to the eclipse, celebrations, and gatherings in North Texas.

A change for vending machines
|
Snack vending machines on campus will switch providers between semesters, which will cause a slight increase in prices. The machines will be placed in the same locations as current machines and will have a similar variety of snacks. You will still be able to pay with cash or credit card. Recycle your eclipse glasses
|
You can turn in undamaged eclipse glasses for recycling or reuse at the information desks at the University Center and The Commons. The University will send the glasses to nonprofit groups for future distribution and use.

This peer-to-peer collaboration, hosted in the Central Library, is designed to enhance academic skills, promote knowledge-sharing, and create a supportive community within the libraries and the University.
