This program will bring together a group of 12-15 diverse student leaders to be trained in the work of community-building, and then actively engage their peers and their communities.

Emory Ramadan 2024
March 11 - April 10, 2024
Weekday Iftar Prayers and Dinner
Starting March 18, Emory’s Muslim community has been observing Ramadan with daily fasting from dawn through the sunlight hours and nightly iftar communal prayers and dinner. On Atlanta campus, weeknight prayer and dinner occur at Cannon Chapel with gathering at about 7:45 p.m., followed by prayer and then dinner under the tent next to Cannon Chapel on most nights. Saturday and Sunday prayers and dinner will occur at the Emory Student Center. Muslim students do not need to RSVP, but guests should register by emailing religiouslife@emory.edu.
Suhoor Bags
Suhoor bags will be provided weeknights at the iftar tent this year. There will also be bags available at DCT and SAAC on the Clairmont campus. They are first-come first-served and can be picked up at any time. On weekends, the suhoor bags will only be at the DCT and SAAC.
Weekend Iftar Prayers and Dinner
On weekends, OSRL and MSA will not be providing iftars however, by filling out this second form here by Sunday, March 10 at 11:59 pm, you will be guaranteed free iftar meal from the DCT. If you miss this deadline, please email Dr. Isam Vaid at isam.vaid@emory.edu.

Passover is a week long holiday marking the deliverance of the Israelites from bondage. Beginning with a festive meal called a seder and characterized by an abstention from bread products.

Emory OSRL Recap: Beloved Community Holy Week and Easter
Beloved Community held its Good Friday service in Cannon Chapel on March 29, and The Rev. Allison Arsenault 15T preached. Thank you to the many people who participated in the service through readings and music.
On Saturday March 30, Jaeun Koo, OSRL Chaplaincy Intern, led the Beloved Community Easter Retreat at the Interfaith Center and Lullwater Park. The day included worship, shared meals, Bible study, crafts, and an Easter egg hunt. We thank Jaeun for her leadership on this event.
The Beloved Community gathered again on March 31 to celebrate Easter Sunday with The Rev. Dr. Avis Williams 78Ox 98C 08T 18T preaching about “getting up, getting out, and getting going.” More than 60 people gathered for worship and lunch. Rev. Maddie says, “I am thankful for the ways the Beloved Community joins together to mark and celebrate our holy days. I hope we carry the joy of Sunday throughout the rest of the Easter season. Emory OSRL Recap: Emory Buddhist Club Retreat
On Saturday, March 30, students from Emory Buddhist Club spent a day of mindfulness engaging in practices such as mindful walking, mindful eating, reflection, sitting meditation. Eight students led by Buddhist Chaplain Venerable Priya joined Venerable Dong Hue, resident nun teacher at Kim Cang Monastery, and a group of about 10 Vietnamese Buddhist youth for this silent retreat. Volunteers of the monastery made delicious vegetarian Pho for everyone.
The retreat ended with a discussion on mindfulness regarding our responsibilities to our personal, family, and social positions, and a short reflection on our connection to Mother Earth. Last Friday, March 29 the Sikh Students Association hosted their first event, a movie night, at the Interfaith Center. Though the evening began with plans to watch a movie, it quickly turned into a wholesome time for everyone to get to know one another, enjoy some nostalgic snacks, and chat about Sikhi. International Community Friday Lunch (ICFL) is a long-standing collaboration between the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL) and International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).

Emory Buddhist Club is hosting its annual clothing swap event in April. At this event, you can freely exchange clothes, or simply find your favorite picks. Hebrew College: My Neighbor's Faith
6 Thursdays starting April 11 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in person at Hebrew College and online on Zoom
Based on the 2012 award-winning collection by the same name (and including materials from the 2023 follow-up volume, With the Best of Intentions), this course offers students the opportunity to explore narratives of transformative encounter across lines of difference. With wisdom, wit, courage, and humility, the writers—Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, etc.—share their experience of border-crossing and the lessons learned from their interreligious and cross-cultural adventures.

The Emory Votes Initiative is looking for volunteers to support the DeKalb County Polling Site located on Emory’s Atlanta campus for the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary Elections. Early voting runs from April 29-May 17.
Election Day is May 21. We will be following up about upcoming elections throughout the year.

Glenn Memorial Church: Family Ministries Intern
Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the Atlanta campus of Emory University
Internship for college or seminary student assisting in all aspects of a dynamic children and family ministry, with a focus on building relationships, Christian Education, and congregational care that revolve around the churchwide mission of “loving God, loving neighbor.”
Responsibilities vary weekly from teaching Sunday School classes, leading the Children’s Sermon, developing marketing materials, and assisting with community-wide outreach events. Located on the campus of Emory University, Glenn Church welcomes all persons into the full life and ministry of our congregation, regardless of race, culture, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or socioeconomic status, education, politics, physical or mental ability, or faith history. Emory Interfaith Center Open Hours
(The IFC will be closed for spring break week 3/9-3/17)
The Emory Intefaith Center is a place for worship, prayer, meditation, and retreat on campus for Emory's diverse spiritual communities that also fosters interfaith engagement, education, dialogue, service, and social justice work. It is a home away from home for Emory's diverse spiritual communities, as well as a gateway between the campus and the Atlanta community and world beyond.
The center encompasses spacious and flexible sacred spaces, community and meeting rooms for hospitality, gatherings, studying, and retreats, as well as nearby offices for Emory's multifaith chaplaincy staff, interns, and student workers.
Hours of operation:

Ramadan Mon., Mar. 11 – Wed., Apr. 10, 2024 Tradition: Islam The Holy Month of Ramadan is the month of fasting during which Muslims who are physically able do not eat or drink from the first sign of dawn until sunset in honor of the first revelations to the Prophet Muhammad. The evening meal is celebrated with family.
Laylat al-Qadr Sat., Apr. 6, 2024 Tradition: Islam The Night of Power or Destiny commemorates the first revelation of the Qur'an (the Islamic scriptures) to Prophet Muhammad in 610 CE.
Eid al-Fitr ('Id al-Fitr) Tue., Apr. 9 – Fri., Apr. 12, 2024 Tradition: Islam Also known as the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast. One of the two main Islamic festivals (the other is Eid al-Adha), this day celebrates the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. It comes on the first day of the next lunar month, Shawal.

Ridvan Fri., Apr. 19 – Tue., Apr. 30, 2024 Tradition: Baha'i Commemorates the 12 days that Baha'u'llah spent in the Garden of Ridvan in the last days of his exile in Baghdad, during which time he proclaimed himself as the one announced by Bab. Work is suspended for the first, ninth, and twelfth days.
Mahavir Jayanti Sun., Apr. 21, 2024 Tradition: Jainism Celebrates the birthday of Lord Mahavira. Born with the name Vardhamana in ca. 599 BCE, he was later given the titles of honor, Mahavira ("Great Hero") and Jina ("Conqueror" or "Victor"), a title applied also to the other Tirthankaras.

It is celebrated for eight days with special prayers and symbolic foods at home, starting with the Seder, a ritual meal that re-enacts that ancient deliverance and emphasizes the freedom of the Jews under the guidance of God. The first two and the last two days are holidays.
Palm Sunday (Orthodox Christianity) Sun., Apr. 28, 2024 Tradition: Christianity-Orthodox Celebrates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, marking the beginning of Holy Week that culminates in Easter or Pascha. In some churches, Palm Sunday is combined with the anticipation of Christ's death and so is also known as "Passon Sunday." Orthodox Christians often observe this Sunday on a date different from the date on which Protestant and Roman Catholics observe it.
