BUDGET RECONCILIATION MARKUP PROCESS BEGINS
As Congress returns from its two-week recess, the reconciliation process begins with a series of markups from several House committees—Homeland Security, Armed Services and Education and Workforce—holding markups this week. More committees, including Oversight, Judiciary and Transportation, follow tomorrow, with others to meet next week.
Meanwhile, lawmakers expect a “skinny” budget from the White House this week, offering early guidance for the fiscal 2026 appropriations process ahead of a full budget release in May. Agencies are also due to submit their fiscal 2025 spend plans by Tuesday, revealing how they’ll use funds under the current stopgap measure.
