Your Guide to Workday Training |
The timely update provided below is for faculty and staff as a part of Encompass.
We’re excited to announce the launch of the Employee Training Map, your go-to guide for understanding the training resources intended for your role.
Because employees may hold multiple security roles, we encourage you to review all categories carefully to identify the training and resources that apply to you. Required resources are noted in red to help ensure you can get the most out of Workday.
We encourage you to occasionally revisit the Employee Training Map to see if additional trainings are recommended for your role.
Workday training officially began on October 13 with the first Workday 101: Pre-Go-Live session. The 101 sessions are hosted via Zoom for convenience, and a recording will be posted in Blackboard if the sessions do not align with your schedule.
Explore all available Workday training at olemiss.edu/hrtraining.
- Workday 101 Pre-Go-Live: Recommended for All Employees
Provides a practical overview of what’s changing and how Workday will empower you to manage personal and payroll information with ease. - Overview of Staffing and Recruiting: For Search Committee Chair/Search Committee Member
Explores how to manage candidates, screen applicants, and advance qualified hires in Workday Recruiting. -
Workday: Safety Incident Report (Worker's Compensation): For supervisors/managers
Walks through the essential process of reporting and tracking safety incidents and Workers' Compensation claims.
While many resources are already available, other sessions (like Talent and Performance), Job Aids, and Demos will become available starting in December and into 2026. Those resources will be most valuable to you once you get access to Workday on January 2, 2026.

The Encompass Training Approach |
Our approach is designed to make training effective, manageable, and relevant.
Training is delivered close to go-live, so information stays fresh and actionable.
Sessions focus first on the most common tasks you’ll perform at go-live, with more advanced opportunities later to deepen your understanding.
Assignments are tailored to your role, responsibilities, and system access. You’ll receive clear guidance on what to take via the Employee Training Map.
Step-by-step guides with screenshots to walk you through specific processes
| Short demonstrations of specific tasks or processes
| Virtual instructor-led demonstrations and Q&As (recordings available)
Self-paced, Online Courses |
Self-paced learning modules
| In-person sessions with live demonstrations and hands-on practice
| Digital tools like an Employee Training Map, a Glossary, and Crosswalks to provide further support
To help you get the most out of the training materials and opportunities, here are a few tips:
- Set aside time to complete training without distraction.
- Save key resources like the glossary for quick reference.
- Use the Job Aids as step-by-step companions once Workday is live.
-
Keep a running list of questions to discuss with your supervisor or HR.
While we encourage everyone to review the recommended courses outlined in the Employee Training Map, a few future trainings will be required for certain employees.
These include:
-
Time Tracking for Managers: Required for all managers and supervisors.
- Advanced Level Recruiting: Required for job requisition creators who will need requisition creation access in Workday.
All required trainings will be hosted in Blackboard to enable a self-paced experience, and you will be notified if you need to complete any required trainings.
