Dear Moores Cancer Center Faculty,
We are now seeking candidates from UC San Diego, San Diego State University and/or LaJolla Institute for Immunology, for the position of Moores Cancer Center Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement (AD COE).
Dr. Elena Martinez has served with great distinction as AD COE as well as Associate Director for Population Science for several years. As both roles require significant leadership effort and continue to grow in scope, we are expanding support and creating a separate AD COE role to allow Dr. Martinez to focus on the role of AD Population Science.
The principal role of the AD for COE will be to foster bidirectional communication between MCC members and community stakeholders and community members in our catchment area of San Diego County and beyond. This communication is critical for our research efforts. To achieve this, the AD COE works directly with the Community Advisory Board, COE staff, community collaborators, and MCC members. The MCC AD COE will provide leadership to carry out a focused mission, vision, and strategy for COE that aligns with the MCC Strategic Plan and COE-related initiatives of UC San Diego Health, UC San Diego Health Sciences, the La Jolla Institute for Immunology, San Diego State University and the larger UC San Diego campus. The AD COE is charged with promoting and advancing innovative ideas, programs, and initiatives for outreach, engagement, and bidirectional communication with community.
Furthermore, the AD COE will assess and assist with prioritizing catchment area research priorities when engaging with Research Programs and community collaborators. This also includes establishing metrics and monitoring, reporting, and continuously evaluating COE progress.
This position reports to the Director of the Moores Cancer Center, sits on the Moores Cancer Center Executive Committee and participates in the MCC Senior Leaders Council. The AD COE will collaborate with the COE Program Director, a faculty member responsible for designated COE program execution.
The MCC AD COE position will be approximately 0.2 FTE (~8 hrs/wk). They will receive 20% salary support up to NIH cap and will have programmatic execution support of a dedicated senior administrative staff member and programmatic staff.
Candidates must have an Associate or Full Professor appointment at one of the Moores Cancer Center Consortium institutions: UC San Diego, La Jolla Institute for Immunology, and/or San Diego State University.
Please see attached for the associated position description and requirements. I would like to encourage any interested faculty member to submit a Letter of Interest that includes your vision for the position as well as a recent CV to Xochitl Villanueva (xvillanueva@health.ucsd.edu) by Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Feel free to reach out to me or either of the committee chairs directly with any questions.
Finally, I want to thank Drs. Corrine McDaniels-Davison and Elena Martinez for their leadership and for their service as chairs of the COE Associate Director search committee.
Thank you,
Joseph Califano, MD
