President Eases Tariffs on Key Food & Beverage Imports
President Signs Tariff Exemption Executive Order |
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday exempting several key imports for convenience services from reciprocal tariffs. The announcement follows additional trade deal frameworks with South American and European trade partners, including Argentina, Ecuador, and Switzerland.
Many of the newly exempted goods such as coffee, tea, cocoa, and select fruits and juices were previously under higher tariff categories until final trade deals were completed.
NAMA has consistently engaged with administration and trade officials to highlight the impact of these tariffs on operators and suppliers. The new exemptions reflect the results of that sustained advocacy and collaboration with industry partners to secure relief for essential agricultural inputs unavailable in the U.S.
Key Goods Exempted:
|
- Coffee
- Green and black teas
- Various fruits and juices
- Cocoa and spices
- A complete list is available here (Annex II).
|
These exemptions represent increasing supply chain stability for member businesses, as key agricultural goods are no longer susceptible to fluctuating reciprocal tariff rates. Additionally, lower tariffs on commodities are anticipated to lower sourcing costs.
