As you may know, June 30 is my final day as dean of the College of Arts and Science, and this is the last newsletter to be sent under my signature. In many ways, I’m in the same situation as our students who graduated on May 8—finishing one incredible chapter and starting an exciting new one.
Like our graduates, I have learned a tremendous amount during my three years as dean. They brought new collaborations, unexpected discoveries, and open, meaningful conversations—all experiences that we encourage our students to have. And like our students, I explored topics that I wasn’t familiar with and gained new perspectives. I am grateful and honored to have served in this role.
As I prepare to leave the dean’s office and return to the faculty, I want to thank everyone—alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, and friends of A&S—for their support of the college and me personally. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as dean, largely because of the wonderful people I’ve worked with and gotten to know. Together, we’ve accomplished an enormous amount in a relatively short period of time, much of which has been featured in this newsletter! A&S is stronger academically and financially than ever before, and its future is very bright.
I do hope that our paths cross again soon; in the meantime, this summer if you see a Jeep Wagoneer towing an Airstream camper heading west, give us the “VU” hand sign!
