Performances by Carla Patullo and the Scorchio Quartet, NJCU Multi-Style Strings Ensemble, Dr. Dave Eggar, Guest Director
Featuring special guest speakers from the Hispanic Nurses Association, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Integrated Black Nurses Association, and the NJCU Department of Nursing-Simulation
|
'So She Howls" is a cathartic, cinematic album recently winning the GRAMMY®️ Award for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album. Born from Patullo's near-death experience, the album is a triumphant story of healing told through primal vocals, lush orchestral arrangements, and adventurous electronics.
Led by the esteemed Martha Mooke, the Scorchio Quartet boasts an impressive pedigree, having performed with legendary artists like David Bowie, Philip Glass, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Iggy Pop, Flaming Lips, Regina Spektor, and David Byrne, among others. Along with Mooke, Scorchio members Lorenza Ponce, Frederika Krier, and Leah Coloff will join Patullo, bringing their virtuosic talents to realize the full depth and breadth of "So She Howls" in a live setting.
This rare performance offers a unique opportunity to witness the emotional urgency and healing power of Patullo's music as it was intended – experienced in its entirety. As the artist herself shares, "I hope that the listener will come through the process of the album feeling better, like working through a grief cycle."
From the meditative, ethereal tones of "Calling You" to the stately, joyous swell of the concluding track "And Love," attendees will embark on a transformative journey, guided by Patullo's authentic storytelling through song and the exceptional musicianship of the Scorchio Quartet.
The NJCU Multi-Style Strings Ensemble will perform in the Theatre Lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by "So She Howls" in the Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
