AHEAD COMMITTEE REACHES CONSENSUS IN NEGOTIATED RULEMAKING
The Accountability in Higher Education and Access through Demand-driven Workforce Pell (AHEAD) Committee reached a consensus this afternoon on the implementation of the new Workforce Pell Grants after a week of negotiated rulemaking.
According to reporting from POLITICOPro, "The department’s final proposal is closely aligned with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — the law that established the Workforce Pell program."
POLITICOPro also noted that, "It is difficult to estimate the number of programs that will be eligible for Workforce Pell. That will depend on how community colleges and for-profit schools react and how states label high-demand industries, department officials said early in negotiations this week. But there could be several hundred to a few thousand programs that qualify, based on available state and federal data. The Workforce Pell Grants will become available July 1 as directed by Congress, but when the first disbursement might occur is less clear, department officials said."
More details and resources on the impact and implications of this consensus are expected to be available soon at the link below as well as in subsequent digest updates from our office.
