Every other year, the CAC sophomores and juniors visit Spain during Spring Break. Junior Audrey Bledsoe shared some of her experiences and adventures on the expedition to Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, and Toledo. Toledo was Audrey’s favorite because of the city’s beauty and their entertaining tour guide.
With the exploration of new cultures comes the exploration of new types of food. Audrey’s favorite dish was one that she doesn't know the name of, but it includes vegetables and rice in a cast iron skillet. The weirdest thing she tried was calamari.
“That was the most popular thing in Madrid: calamari sandwiches," she said. "I’ve had calamari before but it was a completely different texture.”
Exploring new places also brings brand new experiences and insights into how other people from different parts of the world live their daily lives. Audrey’s favorite part of the trip was getting to meet and talk to interesting people even though there was a language barrier. Her favorite memory was seeing a large band that was playing outside of one of the cathedrals.
“There were very loud drums and super high trumpets and they were wearing some kind of military uniform. It was super cool,” she said. "Oftentimes, I forget that there are people in other parts of the world that are living somewhat similar lives to me but also very different. Interacting with people was probably the most eye opening part.”
Some advice Audrey has to younger students considering going on the Spain trp in the upcoming years is to take pictures of everything. She says that taking pictures of things will help keep your memory of everything that happened on the trip. She also advises to not be scared of traveling to new places and trying new things.
“Scared people never get anything done, and if you get out of your comfort zone and travel to different places, you can experience unforgettable things.”
