Critical Maintenance: General Contractor At Work
Planning has began for the Smith critical maintenance project, a $9.6 million renovation and upgrade of key elevator and HVAC systems in the building.

Smith, PSU Capital Projects and general contractor Swinnerton are developing a timeline for the work that will span the next couple of years.
One of the early stages will be a comfort survey seeking feedback from those with spaces in the building. During the work, elevator service in the building will be reduced at times and some tenants might need to use temporary spaces while work is done in their usual portion of the building. That survey is expected soon.

The critical maintenance project is funded by the Student Building Fee in association with the Student Fee Committee, Smith Union and backed by state bonds.
If you have questions about the critical maintenance project, contact Randy Mishler, Smith's communications coordinator, at rmishler@pdx.edu.
Updates are being compiled on our Critical Maintenance page.

Welcome, Oregon Cheesesteak!

This term returning food court vendors Kunniq’s gourmet sausage, Shawarma Spot and Ace Sushi will be joined by Oregon Cheesesteak.

These folks are making traditional cheesesteaks with a Northwest twist. They come in beef or chicken or a combo of the two. With custom NW beer cheese and housemade sauces including the sweet-and-tangy Marionberry Horseradish to choose from. Oh, and Lotus energy drinks are available too.

The Smith Kitchen’s food court will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. M-Th and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays on the ground floor of Smith Memorial Student Union.

Study Space Smith 026 Open Again

With the Millar Library operating once more, the Pop-Up Library that was housed in Smith 026 over the summer has popped back across the Park Blocks. Smith 026 is open again as study space during general access building hours. A PSU ID is needed to enter this area.
Attendees at the GO Congress face off in gameplay.
Summer is a time of fewer classes and less traffic on campus. Not at Smith. A number of events and affiliated attendees filled the building. One of the more interesting activities was the weeklong US GO Congress event that drew game players from around the world to campus. Smith also hosted a multi-day BIPOC adoptees conference. At Viking Pavilion, you missed Prestige Wrestling and Major League Table Tennis competition.

The Smith Rules of Conduct

Please … no vehicle riding in the building, no sleeping in the lounges, service animals are welcome. If you aren’t sure what the rules are in Smith you can check out the Rules of Conduct on our website or posted near most entrances.

University Market Adds SNAP Options

What's new at the Market this term isn't what we have (though we have some new stuff!) it's how you can get it. The Market now accepts SNAP payment for qualified purchases. The Basic Needs Hub can interested parties determine their eligibilty for SNAP.
Remember, the University Market on the ground floor of Smith is an easy way to shop on campus. Start your day with fresh Boyd’s coffee (bring your own tumbler for inexpensive fill-ups), snacks, drinks, grab-and-go food, study supplies (you know you still need a pen!), dorm supplies and more. Check out the Market’s selection of official Portland State shirts, caps and gear.
Open 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. M-Th, til 5 p.m. F.
