WashU TSBM Team Members Present at NCATS Translational Impact Summit

Members from WashU’s Translational Science Benefits Model (TSBM) team recently served on a panel at the two-day event and discussed the broad application of the TSBM across the CTSA consortium, and highlighted the opportunity to foster a shared understanding of impact. They emphasized the need to develop more impact-oriented data sources and to integrate methods from other fields such as communications, health economics, and implementation science.

Sign Up to Observe ICTS Spring NIH Mock Study Section (MSS) 

The MSS aims to increase the likelihood of grant funding success by providing comprehensive feedback to applicants on their complete grant application prior to submission. Observers are encouraged to attend to gain insight into how reviewers evaluate applications. Those interested in observing the upcoming Spring MSS can contact ictsrdp@wustl.edu. The virtual session will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 8:00am-4:00pm.

Cultivating Mentoring Excellence: The 2026 MLP Retreat

Housed in the WashU Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC), the Mentoring Liaison Program (MLP) streamlines mentor training for mentors and scholars by identifying Mentor Champions to spearhead program-specific mentoring curricula. At the recent 2026 MLP Retreat, Mentor Champions gathered for an informative and interactive review of mentoring practice and reflected on the bright future for trainees, WashU programs, and mentoring at large through their dedicated learning, constructive thinking, and meaningful collaboration.

This session on April 15, 2026 from 3:30-5:00pm, led by Keith Lohse, PhD, PStat, will cover Rigor and Reproducibility as defined by the NIH. Lohse will discuss threats to rigor and reproducibility, and how to make your research more robust in a fast-paced scientific world. There will be the option to attend both in-person and virtually.

CRTC to Offer Summer 3-Week Intensive Course on Bench Fundamentals for Translational Research 
This course will introduce fellows-in-training and future physician scientists to the core principles of scientific investigation. This unique format will combine theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on applications to provide students with an understanding of common research approaches in current scientific endeavors. The course will run online from August 3-16, 2026 and in-person from August 17-21, 2026. Applications are open now and the priority enrollment deadline is July 1, 2026.

CRTC Seeks Applications for Mentored Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI) and Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI)
Through didactic coursework, structured mentorship, and interactions with a diverse peer group of trainees, the postdoctoral MTPCI and/or MSCI enables scholars to learn how to develop effective research projects, utilize human subjects in clinical trials, collect, analyze, and summarize data, apply epidemiologic principles and tools, consider relevant ethical and legal issues, write grants and manuscripts, and compete for research funding. Applications close on April 15, 2026, for 2026 fall start date.

Sign Up for the Rigor and Reproducibility Real-World Data (RWD) Platforms Collaborative Workshop - May 12, 2026
The collaborative workshop's goals will include several objectives, including establishing a plan for developing a framework to embed rigor, reproducibility, and transparency in RWD studies, and reviewing novel analytical approaches, advanced methods, and tools for RWD, including methodologies to assess robustness and quantify uncertainty. The workshop will be held in-person at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

POCTRN Announces Six New Innovation Award Opportunities
The Point of Care Technology Research Network (POCTRN) has launched six new funding opportunities to accelerate the development of promising point-of-care technologies. Applications are being sought from academic and industry innovators advancing solutions in chronic disease, infectious disease, and disease prevention. Priority areas include cancer detection; heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders; sexually transmitted infections (STIs); and emerging infectious diseases in low-resource settings, among others. The deadline for proposals is May 1, 2026.

Register for the Health Experiences Research Network (HERN) 1.0 Hybrid Training
The Health Experiences Research Network (HERN) is a partnership among researchers at the University of New Mexico, Oregon Health and Science University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Johns Hopkins University, Yale University, the University of Utah School of Medicine, the Veterans Administration, and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. HERN will host a hybrid training event on May 18-20, 2026 that will include interactive sessions on methodology, project development and implementation, opportunities to present research, and networking with peers and senior researchers.
