New Surplus Process for Campus Computers
|
To better service the campus and to increase data security, HSC ITS and Surplus have jointly developed a new process for disposal of computing equipment. Beginning January 16, all computing equipment containing electronic storage will be sent to ITS for processing before going to Surplus for final disposal. This includes desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and removable storage such as USB drives, external hard drives, etc. This process will be facilitated through a new Computer Surplus Form and Tech Connect Service Request. For more information, or to arrange pickup and disposal of these items, visit the new Computer Surplus Page.
All other surplus equipment should continue to go through the existing Surplus Property process.
This new process will reduce the S1 processing time and increase data security. Currently there is a backlog of equipment submitted on S1 Forms that has not been picked up from the departments and delivered to Surplus. Many of these S1 Forms contain both computing and non-computing items. To ensure all items deemed surplus are processed appropriately, we are requiring items submitted on an S1 Form prior to December 1, 2023 but not picked up, be resubmitted using the appropriate process.
If you have any question, please contact Jonathan Lawshe.

RESEARCH SAFETY AFFAIRS OFFICE

Principal Investigators and Researchers
|
Business Managers and Department Chairs have a critical role to play when bringing new Principal Investigators and Researchers to campus. Business Managers and Department Chairs of research departments must be aware of the procedures for new laboratories and should email the Office of Research Safety Affairs with information about Principal Investigators new to the campus or when existing Principal Investigators will be occupying newly allocated lab space.
Business Managers and Department Chairs must also be aware of the lab closeout procedures, and are responsible for coordinating the safe departure of personnel from the University. Emailing the Office of Research Safety Affairs will help inform and coordinate the departure, ensure safe management of hazardous materials, and minimize cost to the University.

USCIS Premium Processing Fees Increase
|
USCIS has announced that, due to inflation, they are increasing the Premium Processing fee effective February 26, 2024 to $2,805.00 for H-1B, O-1, TN and green card sponsorship petitions. All Premium Processing requests postmarked on or after February 26, 2024 must include the new fee.
This fee is optional but ensures faster processing of petitions and applications submitted to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Due to time constraints, UTHSC departments often have to request Premium Processing to ensure timely onboarding of new international employees.
For any questions, please contact the International Affairs Office.
