Council of Bishops Response to the 5th Episcopal District Fires
Natural catastrophes are no respecter of region, nation or Episcopal District. The Council of Bishops encourage the entirety of our benevolent denomination to join in solidarity with Bishop Francine Brookins and Supervisor Rev. Dr. Miriam Burnett as they continue to lead the faithful of the 5th Episcopal District through these horrific wildfires. The damage to property and the loss of life are reaching unprecedented levels.
Let us join hands, hearts and spiritual resolve, petitioning GOD for reprieve and divine assistance from these raging fires. It is easy to speculate and conjecture what our response should be but let us pay close attention to Bishop Brookins as she instructs the African Methodist Episcopal Church on how we can best support them in their great time of need. We lift in prayer all those who have lost property and loved ones to this catastrophe.
Let’s have a concerted effort, projecting an amazing outpouring of love for our church family in the Los Angeles community. As the Church, we have an incredible opportunity to show the strength of our connectional appeal, by seizing the moment and following the leadership of the Bishop, Supervisor, Presiding Elders Council, Pastors, Component leadership and laity.
Please follow the national news cycle and the continuous tracking of the flames. We salute the brave men and women firefighters who instinctively run into harms way while others are doing their best to escape impending danger. You are true heroes and heroines. We further pray that GOD watch over your families while these infernos are battled.
Bishop Silvester S. Beaman
President, Council of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church
