Buckhead Forward: Five Priorities, and Work Already Underway
The Buckhead Coalition and the Buckhead CID have launched Buckhead Forward, a five-year roadmap to enhance quality of life, strengthen economic development and reinforce Buckhead's standing as one of the country's most desirable intown communities.
The roadmap's purpose is alignment. It brings local partners, the City of Atlanta, and state and regional stakeholders around one set of priorities, so resources and expertise go toward the same things at the same time — addressing immediate needs and longer-term opportunities across Buckhead and metro Atlanta.
Buckhead Forward centers on five priorities:
- Creating walkable, vibrant places
- Strengthening utility and street infrastructure
- Enhancing public safety and addressing homelessness
- Easing traffic congestion
- Engaging the community in Buckhead's civic life and cultural experiences
No single organization can deliver this vision alone. Our Buckhead organizations are collaborating, with the City of Atlanta, and state and regional stakeholders, around shared priorities, resources, and expertise to address immediate needs and long-term opportunities across Buckhead and Metro Atlanta.
Several efforts are already moving forward.
Planning and designing the commercial district. The Atlanta Regional Commission's Livable Centers Initiative awarded Buckhead $240,000 to support planning and design of the commercial district — a blueprint for improved walkability, connectivity and civic space. The Buckhead CID will release an RFP on its website by the end of October and invite qualified organizations to respond.
Smoother, safer streets. Working with the City of Atlanta, Councilmembers Mary Norwood, Alex Wan and Thomas Worthy, and the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods, the CID is accelerating repaving of the Move Atlanta Forward streets. The remaining streets are scheduled for completion by year end, with pothole repairs across Buckhead's 45 neighborhoods.
A stellar record to build on. Part 1 violent and property crime rates have returned to pre-pandemic levels and outperform peer districts in Dallas, Charlotte and Nashville — the result of sustained partnership with the Atlanta Police Department and the Atlanta Police Foundation, supplemental patrols, technology investments, and the officer housing subsidy program.
