Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
Putting students first is a top priority for the University. It is reflected in the University’s strategic pursuits of increasing student engagement and fostering a sense of belonging across our community. The dean of students plays an integral role in achieving these goals and creating an environment where students can thrive. Recognizing the importance of this position, President Hartzell and I appointed Katie McGee as interim associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students earlier this year. Since then, Katie has embraced the interim role with remarkable dedication, managing her responsibilities with both competence and confidence. Her leadership has revitalized the Office of the Dean of Students, with a renewed focus on supporting students and equipping them with the tools to succeed. As a result, we are pleased to announce that Katie McGee has been appointed to this role permanently, effective September 1.
Over the past six months, Katie has led the transformation of the Office of the Dean of Students. By realigning its programs, spaces and resources, she and her team have expanded their ability to support student success. The office now includes 11 specialized units working cohesively and in collaboration with student leaders, faculty, staff and community partners to advocate for the well-being of our students.
Katie continues to draw from the strengths she acquired during the past 20 years in higher education leadership roles. When she arrived at the University in 2021 as executive director of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity, Katie demonstrated the ability to forge strategic partnerships. This teamwork led to the implementation of many highly effective programs, including collaborative efforts with academic partners to launch the Successful Student Organizations Pilot Program. Previously, Katie served in executive leadership positions focused on student success at the University of Louisiana System, Louisiana Department of Education and Louisiana State University.
Katie's permanent appointment is a testament to her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to students. Please join me in congratulating her on this well-deserved appointment.
Sincerely,
