As trained researchers, university faculty like you already have a lot of experience asking good questions and finding good answers to scholarly "problems" in your field. The scholarship of teaching and learning encourages you to turn that scholarly curiosity to the other part of academic life that takes up so much of your time, energy, and attention: your own teaching.

Why here and why now? This webinar hosted by Associate Provost Joan Remski and myself goes into some of why now is a really exciting moment at Dearborn to investigate your teaching. (This link will take you to the slides from the presentation.)

Want to see for yourself what that scholarly conversation might look like? This year the Hub has funds to cover registration and travel up to $750 each for 4 people for the Midwest Conference on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning [SoTL] in South Bend, Indiana on Friday, April 12th. You can read the program here - the presentations are diverse and the keynote will be excellent. We know this is a busy time but if you can fit this into your schedule, it is a chance to experience a SoTL conference and think about future presentations you might give! The conference registration is $100; the rest of the funds should be enough to cover mileage and two nights lodging. If you are interested, please apply on this short form before Monday, April 1st.

Ready to jump in to share about your own teaching? The call for proposals for my favorite SoTL conference, the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, is open a few more days (until April1)! You can watch a webinar here about how to prepare a proposal for this conference - and the Hub is ready to help you develop your presentation between now and the conference itself, happening in nearby French Lick Indiana in October 2024. I say nearby because the past two years it's been in the Netherlands and British Columbia. According to the historical pattern, that means it's likely to be in the Asia/Pacific region in 2025!

Zine Launch Party April 4th 4-6pm CASL 1043

Are you ready for an electrifying literary extravaganza? Because the countdown to the launch event of Zine Volume 5 has officially begun, and we want YOU to be part of the excitement!

Mark your calendars for April 4, 4-6pm at CASL 1043 for an event filled with live readings, snacks, and an opportunity for all to contribute to the layout of our latest masterpiece. This event isn't just about celebrating our latest volume; it's about celebrating the vibrant community that makes Zine what it is.

Whether you're a seasoned contributor or an avid reader of the Zine, this event is tailored just for you. We'll have copies of Volume 4 available for everyone, so you can catch up on any issues you might have missed or gift them to a friend.

The Active Learning Classroom, 1212 ML, will accommodate a full schedule of courses during upcoming semesters. The ALC has a capacity of 40 students. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by Monday, April 1st, but feel free to make a request after that date.

The criteria used to select courses will be:

1) feasibility and fit of the course design for the ALC space/technology
2) enrollment
3) priority given to faculty who have not yet had a course scheduled in the ALC

If you are interested in teaching full-time in the ALC, please submit an application at your earliest convenience.
