The Good Ol' [Snow] Days

He's not old — he's just a classic. Coach Sully has been around CAC for much of his life and has seen some things during the winter months of school. Pony Press editors Hannah Custer and Renalson Sullivan talked with Coach Sully about some of memories of the good ol' CAC snow days.

1. When Coach Sully was in his 10th grade year, it started icing after all the students had gotten to school that day. Him and a couple of buddies shut their sleeves of their jackets in the trunk of a car and went skiing down the i-430 bridge [adviser's note: please do not attempt]. When they got to school, the roads were still icy so that they had to stay at school until noon until all the ice had melted.

2. When he and Mrs. Karen Sullivan still lived in the trailer behind the school, Mr. Diles, the president at the time, would call Coach Sully and tell him to drive around Crystal hill before he made the decisions about whether or not they would be out of school. The first time Coach Sully had to do that, school didn’t end up getting cancelled, but the second time Coach Sully called Mr. Diles up and told him how bad the roads were and to cancel school for the day.

3. One year about 30 years ago it was snowing so bad while students were in school they had to stay at school because their parents couldn’t make it back to the school because of the ice.

The perfect snow day

Over our snow break, students got to have lots of fun in the wintery weather! Common fun snow day activities ranged from snowball fights, sledding, snowman making and more!

Elizabeth Prestridge, a sophomore, said she sledded with her sisters, got lots of sleep, and watched a lot of TV, but those weren’t the best parts. She said, “We also made snow ice cream, which is the best.”

Livia Tappe’s highlight of her snow week was her giant snowman! Livia is in 8th grade, and this snow break she did many activities with her family. She went sledding, had a snowball fight, and of course built a snowman.

“It took more than three hours and we had to get sled fulls and bucket fulls of snow,” she said about the process of building the large snowman. She also said some of her neighbors came and helped out.

Piper Childress in 6th grade says she “went sledding with her friends and built three different snowmen.” She says the reason she built so many was because she was having some unfortunate luck with them. “The first snowman I built, my dog came and knocked it over, then I built another snowman. My dad threw a snowball at it and knocked it over, and then I decided to build one in my front yard where no one could destroy it.” Piper also went sledding with friends at a golf course where she sledded down a big hill on her back!

Speak Up — Tanner Gill

Tanner Gill is a junior who has been a part of the CAC band since sixth grade. Tanner ended up choosing to play the trumpet and later started playing guitar. He said “I play guitar all the time, like I love it, I’m very passionate about it.” Tanner has always had an interest in playing music. When not in school he plays guitar a lot, and his favorite type of music to play is folk.
