Dear colleagues,
Our William & Mary community continues to honor the legacy of Lana Fellows. Please refer to last week’s message from Senior Vice President Ginger Ambler for additional memorial details and opportunities for remembrance. I want to reiterate my encouragement to prioritize self-care and to support one another, and to remind you that W&M resources are always available for those in need of support.

Here are the top 5 things to know this week:
|
-
Recruitment for the 2025 mid-level academic leadership cohort is underway. Based on faculty response to the leadership development survey earlier this fall, the 2025 program provides à la carte and cohort options for attendance. If you’re interested in joining a cohort, you can apply now. Mark your calendars for the first session on Thursday, January 16 from 1-3 p.m. This session, The Power of Mid-level Academic Leaders: Identifying Individual Leadership Strengths, provides ways to determine your approach to leading. I strongly encourage you to attend.
-
William & Mary Libraries invite you to a Writers’ Retreat in Swem Library January 13-17, 2025. The purpose of the retreat is to give you uninterrupted time to work on a specific writing project, complete research, edit a manuscript, or prepare a grant proposal. The retreat will provide quiet space in Swem, daily breakfast and lunch, and structure. Read more and apply by 5 p.m. this Friday, December 13.
-
Wellness & Resilience Empowerment Network (WREN) Advisor applications are open through December 15. WREN Advisors will be trained to directly connect individuals to mental health and wellness resources specific to their needs.
-
Thank you and congratulations to the Faculty Handbook Working Group for successfully navigating the Faculty Handbook revision process. In drafting these revisions, the Working Group consulted extensively with President Rowe and with me. They also worked through the faculty governance process with the Personnel Policy Committee and the Faculty Assembly. Other key constituents around campus had the opportunity for input. The Board of Visitors has now approved the new handbook, which will take effect on July 1, 2025.
- On January 10, 2025, join STLI for Ready, Set, Teach!—an event designed to help instructors breathe, reset, and spring into the new semester with low-stakes learning opportunities. There are virtual and in-person sessions. Learn more and register now.
