She Won!!!

WE are so proud Shelby Borst was named Delaware's 2025 Teacher of the Year. Shelby, a social studies teacher at William Penn, was the top pick out of 19 other finalists from across the state. She wins a $5,000 grant to support her students and another $5,000 personal grant. In addition, Shelby is entitled to a free doctoral program from the University of Delaware and Wilmington College and other great prizes- WOW!

WPHS Showcase & College Night

Visitors learned about all of the programs offered at Penn while students talked to college and post-graduate recruiters.

Storybook Character Day

There was no shortage of colorful costumes at schools around the district as young and old alike dressed as their favorite storybook characters. Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Menzer and Div. of Health and Wellness Director Dr. Jon Cooper (top left) even enjoyed the fun!

She's a Superhero!

Kudos to Wilbur student teacher Alexandra Sweeny. After overhearing a homeless student say he had no storybook character costume to wear to school she got him and all other needy students a costume the very next day. How? She took to social media and asked her Sigma Kappa sorority sisters at the University of Delaware for help. In less than 24 hours Sweeny collected $900 to purchase a variety of costumes so every Wilbur Wildcat could enjoy Storybook Character Day!

Southern Fall Festival

There was plenty of southern hospitality at Southern Elementary School's annual Fall Festival. All agreed it was the best festival yet!

Trunk 'R Treat Time!

Trunk 'R Treat was filled with lots of fun and lots of creativity. Check out New Castle Elementary School (top) and Wilbur (bottom) where everyone had a great time.

Pumpkin Chunkin' Time

Pumpkin Chunkin is always a crowd-pleaser at Leach. No matter who hurls the pumpkins the farthest, Principal Ginny Schreppler comes dressed for the part and always smiles even when she gets a cream pie in the face- what a great sport!

Down on the Farm!

Who has a school farm? We do! Middle school students visited Penn Farm to do fun ag-related activities like picking veggies and learning about the animals raised by students at William Penn.

You're Gonna Love Penn!

Administrators made 8th-grade tours at William Penn exciting for middle school students. The rising high schoolers learned about the academics offered at the district's flagship high school and the fun activities. See ya' next school year!

Homecoming Highlights

Picture-perfect weather, record crowds, vendors, food, and lots of good old-fashioned fun made the Fall Festival & Homecoming a big success!

Operation Hair Care

The first of three visits to Paul Mitchell the School Delaware meant free salon services for select elementary students thanks to a partnership that gives cosmetology students at the school the service hours they need. The kids enjoyed their make-overs and the aspiring stylists enjoyed sending the young scholars back to school with a brand new look.

Ahoy Mates!

There's a treasure trove of goodies in our school cafeterias, just ask Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Menzer (left) and Carrie Downie Principal Michelle Upperman (right). National School Lunch Week is always fun when administrators help our outstanding nutrition services staff serve a tasty meal.

Safety First

Teachers and staff were introduced to a new transportable weapons detector system that will be used at sporting and special events in the district. A Safety and Security Summit was also held so community members could learn about it and other security measures being practiced to keep students and staff safe.
