APRIL 2026

BRIDGE TRAFFIC AND TRANSIT RIDERSHIP UPDATE

Travel in the Golden Gate Corridor by Bridge, Bus, and Ferry remains well below pre-pandemic levels. Thankfully, overall travel in the Golden Gate Corridor continues to trend upward.
In March 2026, southbound Bridge traffic was about 6 percent above March 2025 traffic, Bus ridership was the same as March 2025, and Ferry ridership was 40 percent above March 2025 ridership.
Today, during the morning southbound commute, Bridge traffic is still down about 25 percent compared to pre-pandemic traffic. Less Bridge traffic results in less toll funding available to operate the District’s bus and ferry service. Accordingly, staff are focused on reducing costs while providing first-class service for travelers in the Golden Gate Corridor.
March 2026 traffic and transit ridership statistics are below:

MASCOTS SERVICE ROLLOUT UPDATE

MASCOTS service changes rolled out on Sunday, April 12, and the changes have been well received by North Bay transit customers. The vast majority of customers have embraced the changes and like the new MASCOTS service configuration.
The District has received very few calls or emails to Customer Service since the MASCOTS rollout which, given magnitude of the service changes, is a sign of the program's early success. Of the few calls received, several were associated with delays on other operators that were not MASCOTS specific.
The District and MASCOTS partners will continue to monitor the service changes and make any changes as needed over the coming months.

OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES BEGIN FOR UNDER ROADWAY MAINTENANCE

On Monday, April 14, the District began implementing weeknight lane closures to perform planned maintenance and repairs on the underside of the Bridge roadway. The lane closures are scheduled every Monday through Friday from approximately 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., similar to the overnight lane closures in effect for the construction of the Suicide Deterrent System. Traffic remains open in all directions during the lane closures, but drivers should expect minor delays and to slow down in the construction zone. Weekly notices of the lane closures are being sent out to customers and posted to the District website and social media.
During the overnight lane closures, Bridge maintenance staff are accessing the underside of the Bridge roadway using a highly-specialized Under Bridge Inspection Truck (UBIT) operating from the closed lanes on the Bridge. This access method allows staff to repair and replace roadway pedestals quickly without needing to build out full access systems. The work is expected to continue for at least 12 weeks.

BIKE TO WHEREVER DAY IS MAY 14

On Thursday, May 14, Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry will be celebrating Bay Area Bike to Wherever Day in an effort to encourage people to pedal to work, school, or wherevery they may go. Energizer Stations at the Larkspur Ferry Terminal and north end of the Golden Gate Bridge will be staffed with volunteers who will be handing out swag bags to keep our customers moving.
